Updated playoff projections as of October 30
Here are the current projections for the area teams in the playoffs
if the season ended today (as we see them). The top 4 teams make the
playoffs in the two Mississippi regions make the playoffs. In the
Tennessee private schools, all four teams in D2AA make it while the top 3
teams in D2 West 1 and D2 West 2 make it. The Arkansas schools use a
combination of wins and playoffs points.
Then there is the Tennessee public schools. Teams finishing first and second in their respective districts automatically qualify and then there are wild cards. The link below has the playoff standings for 1A through 6A.
http://tssaa.org/divisiononefootballplayoffs/
These are our projections using the information we have available. We will continue to update these on a week to week basis. Obviously, there will be a lot of change over the coming weeks. In Tennessee, once the teams are placed in their respective quads, they are seeded like this: All first place teams in the quad, all second place teams and then wild cards. If there are multiple first place teams in a quad, they are seeded according to their place in the TSSAA tiebreaker standings and the same is done with second place teams and then wild cards.
We will not project the entire statewide bracket, Just the quads involving the area teams. If there aren't any area teams that qualify in a specific bracket, we will not post that bracket.
MS 5A & 6A
TN D2A & D2AA
TN 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A
ARK 6A/7A, MAIS
In most cases, the higher seeded team in always the home team. However, in Mississippi after the first round that changes. Second round – fourth round the team that has played a fewer number of home games will be designated the home team. If both teams have played an equal number of home games, the home site will be determined by the highest seeded team.

More insight into the TSSAA playoff system
A very good interview with Bernard Childress, executive director with the TSSAA. He sat down with Tom Kreager (follow him on Twitter @Kreager) from the Daily News Journal from Murfreesboro (dnj.com) to talk about the upcoming playoffs, the system as a whole, including changes that could be on the horizon and issues that face the TSSAA.

Latest playoff projections if they started today (October 21)
Here are the current projections for the area teams in the playoffs
if the season ended today (as we see them). The top 4 teams make the

Game recaps from October 17-18
Arlington 38 Millington 37
Add this one to the list for candidates for game of the year as it had many twists and turns and was finally settled on special teams. Millington SR RB Lakeron Garcia had just scored his third TD of the night with 23 seconds left to bring the Trojans to within one but Arlington JR LB Hunter Clay broke through to block the ensuing extra point and give the Tigers the win. Just 5 and a half minutes earlier, Garcia's second TD of the night had tied the game and Arlington JR RB Joseph Stevenson returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yds for the then go ahead score. The Tigers scored two touchdowns in 1:04 late in the first half to take the lead. After SR QB Hunter Sheffield scored on a 1 yd run to tie the game, the Trojans lost the ball on the kickoff & Sheffield took advantage, hitting SR WR Tyler Flack with his second TD of the game. Arlington led 24-17 after 3 so there were 34 points combined by the two teams in the 4th quarter. Sheffield finished 18-27 for 230 yds and 2 TD's. SO WR Everett Mitchell was his favorite target with 10 catches for 93 yds and Flack finished with 5 catches for 100 yds in addition to the 2 TD's. JR Ben Evans led the way on defense with 10 tackles. For the Trojans, Garcia had 59 yds rushing to go with the 3 TD's and caught 4 passes for 47 yds. SO QB Eldon Tyms was 17-26 for 255 yds and 2 TD's. Both of those went to JR WR Damarius Curry who caught 5 passes overall for 141 yds and also had 6 tackles on defense. SR Delvin Williamson had 5 tackles and 3 sacks for Millington as well.

Southwind-Houston recap from Oct. 14
Southwind's second game in 4 days had an even more thrilling ending than the previous one. On Friday it took a 65 yd TD pass from Darian Cole to Chris Gatewood with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game to give the Jaguars the come from behind win 28-23 over the Germantown Red Devils. Maybe that prepared them for the finish of this one but I doubt it.
Cole hit SR Jimmy Keys with only 18 seconds remaining on the clock with a touchdown pass that was deflected by the Mustangs defense to give the Jaguars a stunning 50-45 comeback. Southwind trailed 42-22 when the fourth quarter started and were down 45-28 with about 7 minutes left in the game.
Cole had 6 touchdown passes on the night to lead Southwind. QB Jared Schmidt rushed for 3 touchdowns for the Mustangs and RB Malik Elion scored twice including on a 90 yd kickoff return.
Here is the game story from Pete Wickham of the Commercial Appeal:

Playoff projections for area schools
Here are the current projections for the area teams in the playoffs if the season ended today (as we see them). The top 4 teams make the playoffs in the two Mississippi regions make the playoffs. In the Tennessee private schools, all four teams in D2AA make it while the top 3 teams in D2 West 1 and D2 West 2 make it. The Arkansas schools use a combination of wins and playoffs points.

Latest TSSAA playoff projections
Here is the first set of projections from the TSSAA in their public
school divisions. Click on the link and you can scroll through the
different classifications, playoff standings, tiebreakers, etc..
http://tssaa.org/divisiononefootballplayoffs/
All they are showing is the top 32 teams in 3A-6A and top 24 in 1A-2A that would make the playoffs. What they have not taken into consideration just yet is if there are any teams not in the top 24 or 32 that are first or second in their district. Those team automatically qualify for the playoffs regardless of the number of overall wins that they have. Overall wins is the first tiebreaker in the TSSAA standings.
Here are our current projections for the playoffs if the season ended today. We will continue to update these on a week to week basis. Obviously, there will be a lot of change over the coming weeks. Once the teams are placed in their respective quads, they are seeded like this: All first place teams in the quad, all second place teams and then any wild card teams. If there are 3 first place teams in the quad, they are seeded according to their place in the TSSAA tiebreaker standings. Same for any second place or wild card teams.
We will not project the entire statewide bracket, Just the quads involving the area teams.

Game recaps from October 3, 4 and 5
South Panola 40 Olive Branch 21
One of the high profile matches on the night was down in Batesville for this annual battle. South Panola jumped out to an early 20-0 lead before the Conquistadors cut the lead to 6 following Kyky Austin's 63 yd interception return for a touchdown. Austin also picked up a blocked field goal later in the game and returned it 78 yds for a score. Olive Branch QB Ross Trail left the game in an ambulance after taking a hit in the back. According to John Varlas from the CA (follow him on Twitter @johnvarlas), the x-rays were negative and Trail is moving around pretty good and day to day. Mississippi commitment Alfred Dickens who also left the game with an injury at the end of the first half and did not return, suffered from bruised ribs and dehydration. He is also day to day.
Here is a link to the game story from Chris Van Tuyl from the CA.
