Individual stats as of October 29

Here are some stats for the area schools in a number of different categories. If you don't see your school represented, there are one of two reasons why: 1) They didn't meet the cutoff point for a specific category or 2) We don't have any information from your school. Contact the person that does stats for your school and have them e-mail them to us at shelbymetrosports@gmail.com. All we want to do is spotlight the young men who are playing high school football in the Shelby Metro area and we appreciate any help that we can get to make that happen.

Here are the categories:

Playoff possibilities as of 10-29

Here are some playoff possibilities for the Tennessee area teams:

Top two teams automatically qualify for the playoffs in these leagues.

13-AAA
Munford is in. They are #1 with a win or #2 with a loss.

14-AAA
Arlington is #1, Millington is #2. Bartlett & Cordova can still get in but both need to win for starters to have a chance.

15-AAA
Ridgeway is #1, Houston is #2. Collierville will get in as a wild card. Germantown is in right now but if Bartlett or Cordova win, they could take the Red Devils spot.

16-AAA
Whitehaven is #1. If Melrose beats White Station, Melrose is #2. If White Station wins and Hamilton beats  East, White Station is #2. If White Station wins and East beats Hamilton, East is #2. Central is in as a wild card. Melrose and East will be in as wild cards if they don't finish second. I believe if White Station wins to get to 5-5, they will earn a wild card as well.

16-AA
Trezevant is #1. Craigmont/Manassas winner is #2. The Craigmont/Manassas loser will still get in as a wild card. Raleigh Egypt and Fairley should be in as wild cards.

16-A
Hillcrest is #1, Mitchell is #2. KIPP has an outside shot of getting in as a wild card.

Top three teams automatically qualify in these leagues:

D2A-W1
ECS is #1, Harding Academy is #2 and the Northpoint Christian/FACS winner is #3.

D2A-W2
USJ/St. George's winner is #1, USJ/St. George's loser is #2 and the Tipton Rosemark/Rossville Christian winner is #3.

All four teams qualify in D2AA.

CBHS is #1, MUS/Briarcrest winner is #2, MUS/Briarcrest loser is #3 and St. Benedict is #4.

If the playoffs started today as of 10-26

Here are the current projections for the area teams in the playoffs if the season ended today (as we see them). The top 4 teams make the playoffs in the two Mississippi regions make the playoffs. In the Tennessee private schools, all four teams in D2AA make it while the top 3 teams in D2 West 1 and D2 West 2 make it. The Arkansas schools use a combination of wins and playoffs points.

Then there is the Tennessee public schools. Teams finishing first and second in their respective districts automatically qualify and then there are wild cards.

These are our projections using the information we have available. We will continue to update these on a week to week basis. There will still be a lot of change going into the last weeks of the regular season. In Tennessee, once the teams are placed in their respective quads, they are seeded like this: All first place teams in the quad, all second place teams and then wild cards. If there are multiple first place teams in a quad, they are seeded according to their place in the TSSAA tiebreaker standings and the same is done with second place teams and then wild cards.

We will not project the entire statewide bracket, Just the quads involving the area teams. If there aren't any area teams that qualify in a specific bracket, we will not post that bracket.

MS 5A & 6A
TN D2A & D2AA
TN 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A
ARK 6A/7A, MAIS

In most cases, the higher seeded team in always the home team. However, in Mississippi after the first round that changes. Second round – fourth round the team that has played a fewer number of home games will be designated the home team. If both teams have played an equal number of home games, the home site will be determined by the highest seeded team

Updated individual stats through October 8

Here are some stats for the area schools in a number of different categories. If you don't see your school represented, there are one of two reasons why: 1) They didn't meet the cutoff point for a specific category or 2) We don't have any information from your school. Contact the person that does stats for your school and have them e-mail them to us at shelbymetrosports@gmail.com. You can also have them call the show on Friday nights between 930-11 pm on Sports 56 and 87.7 FM and give us a report as well. All we want to do is spotlight the young men who are playing high school football in the Shelby Metro area and we appreciate any help that we can get to make that happen.

Here are the categories:

Passing-Most yards, touchdowns

Game recaps for October 2,3,4

Just wanted to apologize for these being posted so late. I went out of town on Saturday to Kansas City for the Royals-Angels playoff game and didn't get back until late Monday.

Melrose 28 East 27

This was a back and forth affair on a Saturday afternoon at the Fairgrounds that wasn't decided until the final seconds and when the dust settled, the Mustangs had their first loss of the season. Melrose jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter before East responded with 27 unanswered points. The Golden Wildcats were not done and when Ke'Von Hall scored with 12 seconds left in the game & Malik Boyd split the uprights with the extra point, the comeback was complete. Hall finished with 13 carries for 89 yds in addition to the game winning touchdown. Melrose QB Cedrick Crawford was 19-36 for 217 yds and 2 touchdowns. WR Tony Pollard had 6 catches for 79 yds and a TD & WR DeQuan Dallas had 4 catches for 70 yds and a score for the Golden Wildcats. The area's leading wide receiver, Jonathan Johnson had a 17 yd TD run but was held in check by the East defense. East JR RB DeVante Turner was outstanding as usual with 25 carries for 144 yds and 2 TD's.
