Game recaps from October 9,10

Fayette Ware 34 Middle College 8

The streak is over! Fayette Ware won their first game since 2007, breaking a 66 game losing streak that had been the state's longest and there were contributions from a number of players. The Wildcats had 405 yds of total offense and averaged 10.9 yds/play. Adonis Holloway had 13 carries for 133 yds while Sammie Mitchell carried 7 times for 91 yds and 2 TD's. The passing game was well represented as well as Greg Goforth was 8-14 for 115 yds and 2 touchdowns,Ronald Billingsley was 2-3 for 66 yds and a score while Steafon McNeal had 4 catches for 107 yds and 2 touchdowns. Defensively Fayette Ware was led by Kartavious Terry with 8 tackles and Antavius Hines with 2 interceptions.



Ridgeway 31 Collierville 0

There was a three way tie for first in District 15-AAA at the start of the night between Ridgeway, Collierville and Houston. When the dust settled by the end of the night, the Roadrunners had gone on the road and took care of business on both sides of the ball and get a very convincing win. Earl Harrison rushed for 111 yds and 2 TD's on 18 carries and caught a touchdown pass as well. QB Braxton Conard only completed 8 passes on the evening but they totaled 131 yds and 2 touchdowns. The Ridgeway defense held the Dragons to 5 first downs and 142 yds of total offense and picked off two passes. LB Darron Johnson led the way with 8 tackles.

Mitchell 48 MAHS 22

Tomadreus Trezevant is lighting up the opposition no matter who they are. For the second straight week and third time this year, Trezevant threw four touchdown passes to lead his team to the victory. Trezevant was 9-19 for 218 to go along with the touchdowns. His favorite target for the second straight week was Jaylon Moore. One week after Moore caught 5 passes for 184 yds and a touchdown, he added 7 receptions for 185 yds and all 4 touchdowns. This is the third time this year that Moore has had at least 130 yds receiving in the game. The quarterback position was well represented for the Tigers as backup Wesley Bacchus got into the game and went 4-5 for 124 yds and 2 touchdowns. The Tigers defense was pretty good too as they had 10 sacks and 2 interceptions. MAHS QB Carlos Ward rushed for a touchdown and threw for one as well and Ladarrius Burks broke loose for a 77 yd td run as well.

DeSoto Central 17 Olive Branch 14

The Jaguars trailed after 3 quarters and rallied for the win by their standout running back, Alan Lamar. His second touchdown of the night with five minutes remaining gave DeSoto Central the comeback win. Lamar had 20 carries for 144 yds to go along with his two touchdowns. QB Cameron Bowman was 17-26 for 206 yds and Rod Smith was his favorite receiver with 9 catches for 107 yds. Olive Branch was led by QB Brady Burse who was 5-9 for 116 yds and a touchdown. Defensively the Conquistadors were led by Sanchez Blake who scooped up a fumble and returned it 78 yds for a touchdown and he also had 14 tackles on the evening.

Tipton Rosemark 40 Middleton 20

The Rebels offense was clicking on all cylinders as they had 443 yds of total offense and cruised to the win. AJ Hightower led the way with 4 total touchdowns-3 rushing, 1 passing. Ethan Kaiser had 12 carries for 103 yds while catching 6 passes for 44 yds and a touchdown and Logan Stewart added 6 carries for 102 yds and a touchdown.

White Station 19 Arlington 0

Spartans WR Dillon Mitchell might just be the most exciting player in the Shelby Metro area. Mitchell came into the game with 11 touchdowns and those have come in a variety of ways-rushing, receiving, punt returns and kick returns. Add an interception return to the list as Mitchell returned Tate Kolwyck's pass 80 yds for a touchdown on the final play of the first half to propel White Station to the victory. Mitchell had opened the scoring with a touchdown pass from Burk Williams who threw for 109 yds and rushed for 56.  

Southaven 17 Tupelo 7

The Chargers offense has been putting up points all year long but it was the play of the defense for the second straight week that led to the victory. One week after holding a high powered Hernando offense to only 13 pts, they held a pretty good Tupelo team to a single touchdown. The Golden Wave were in the red zone twice in the last six minutes of the game only to come away with zero points. Southaven got a touchdown pass from Nic Kennedy to improve to 6-1 on the year and more importantly 3-0 in league play.

Lausanne 47 Rossville Christian 14

One of the highest scoring teams in the Shelby Metro area was at it again Friday night and all it took was one play. Spencer Mackey went 65 yds for a score on the opening play of the game as Lausanne jumped out to a 27-0 lead after one and never looked back. Mackey finished with 4 carries for 105 yds and was 3-3 passing for 56 yds. The only way the Lynx didn't score on the night was via the pass as their defense and special teams had two touchdowns each. Rashad Williams returned two punts for touchdowns, Henry Gallop picked off a pass and returned it 50 yds for a score and Nyle Love scooped up a fumble and returned it 14 yds for a touchdown. Love added 94 yds rushing and a touchdown on just 3 carries. Rossville Christian was led by Travis Moore who finished with 22 carries for 132 yds and a touchdown.

Central 28 St Benedict 14

Defense was king in this one as both teams forced turnovers that led to points and the Warriors just did a little more. Andre Jones Jr had 3 interceptions to lead Central to a come from behind win as they trailed 14-6 in the third quarter before rallying for the win. QB Deddrick Thomas was a sight for sore eyes as he returned from missing three games due to injury. Thomas threw for two scores and rushed for another for the Warriors. The Eagles defense was responsible for both of their touchdowns as well. Joey Magnifico scored his 12th touchdown of the year on a pick six and St Benedict blocked a punt early in the third that led to a Colton Cochran touchdown.

KIPP 50 Northside 6

It was the Eric Thomas show for the Phoenix and it started right away. Thomas returned the opening kickoff of the game 72 yds for a touchdown and KIPP was off and running. Thomas added 206 yds and two touchdowns on only 14 carries and finished with 314 all purpose yards in the game. QB Telly Crawford was 7-10 for 70 yds and 2 scores and Brandon Jones had a 38 yd pick six as well. Northside QB Darius McAtee was 5-9 passing for 108 yds and a score.

Raleigh Egypt 44 Westwood 2

One week after DeVante Boyland had 4 touchdowns, DaShawn Boyland knew it was his turn. DaShawn had 4 touchdowns of his own as the Pharoahs won their second straight.

Craigmont 41 MLK Prep 6

The Chiefs kept in the mix for one of the automatic qualifying playoff spots in District 16-AA with the win over the Rams. Brandon Fields rushed for 3 touchdowns and Andrew McIntyre threw for two scores, one on a 72 yd pass to Darrius Threlkeld.

FACS 49 Macon Rd 0

The Crusaders jumped out to a 29-0 lead after one and cruised to the win. Bobby Downing continued his impressive season with a perfect outing. Downing was 5-5 for 112 yds and two touchdowns and he rushed for a score as well. RB Caleb Johnson had 2 carries and both went for touchdowns and a total of 96 yds. Khari Henley returned a punt 55 yds for a score and backup QB Jack Grissom was 6-11 for 97 yds and a score.

Manassas 41 Fairley 6

The Tigers got touchdowns from all three phases of the game and remained unbeaten in league play. QB James Smith had accounted for 19 touchdowns coming into the game (7 rushing, 12 passing) and did more of the same. Smith rushed for 3 scores and threw a touchdown pass while LiDarrion Seymour added 88 yds on only 7 carries. Antonio Turner not only caught the touchdown pass from Smith but his 82 yd kick return for a touchdown but Manassas ahead to stay.

Harding Academy 36 Oakhaven 0

The Lions had good balance on the evening as they totaled 478 yds on the evening en route to the win. Harding Academy had 264 passing and 214 yds rushing and featured the old and the new. The old, SR Carliss Settles, had 18 carries for 121 yds and a touchdown, caught 5 passes for 62 yds and intercepted a pass. The young were represented by freshman QB Zac Montgomery and sophomores WR Nick Martin and RB Marquavious Moore. Montgomery was 13-22 for 264 yds and 3 TD's and rushed for a touchdown as well. Martin caught 5 passes for 105 yds and a touchdown while Moore rushed 8 times for 90 yds.


Oxford 49 Lewisburg 26

The Patriots did all that they could but just couldn't keep pace with the high scoring Oxford offense. QB Jake Harville was 20-42 for 285 and three touchdowns while rushing for another. His favorite targets on the night were WR Tucker Wammack (6-103 yds, 2 TD's), Benji Galbraith (5-87 yds) and Shawn Allen (4-73 yds, 1 TD).

West Point 56 Center Hill 21

The Mustangs ran into a buzzsaw on the road and could not recover. QB Danterius Ellington had 24 carries for 148 yds and 2 TD's and he threw for a touchdown as well. JR LB Austin Gertz led the defense with 10 tackles.

CBC 49 CBHS 7

Things were looking up for the Purple Wave early in this one as they drove right down the field to tie the game at 7. But that was about it for the Brothers as they could not slow down the home team. RB Austin Lee had 12 carries for 98 yds and Walker Grisanti had 12 carries for 62 yds.

Dyersburg 33 Bartlett 14

The Panthers could not stop the ground game of the Trojans and fell in this non conference game. Dyersburg did not throw a pass until 8 minutes remained in the game and did not punt until the third quarter. Lamarcus Young returned a kickoff 92 yds for a touchdown, Johnathan Bowlan rushed for a score and threw for 136 yds and Christian Busby caught 7 passes for 79 yds for Bartlett.

Immanuel Christian 42 West Memphis Christian 38

West Memphis Christian trailed 28-6 at the half and staged a furious comeback just to come up a little bit short. SR Brice Fitzgerald did it all for the Black Knights. Fitzgerald carried the ball 22 times for 216 yds and a touchdown and 2 pt conversion. He threw a touchdown pass, returned a punt 72 yds for a score, had 4 tackles and an interception on defense and returned a kickoff 37 yds as well. That's one heck of a night's work. Tyler Baker added 11 carries for 105 yds and 2 TD's and Daniel Campbell led the defense with 14 tackles and a sack. 

New Hope 27 Lake Cormorant 12

The Gators knew they were in for a struggle. Coming into the game, New Hope had not lost a game and the Gators had not won. But after 3 quarters, Lake Cormorant only trailed 13-12 before two fourth quarter touchdowns provided the final margin of victory. Benny Benson rushed for a touchdown and Bailey Walker hit Jacameron Ford for the Lake Cormorant touchdowns.

Grenada 36 Horn Lake 14

The Eagles could not stop the Grenada ground game and hurt themselves as well as they lose their third straight game. Grenada only threw the ball 3 times and did not complete a pass but they didn't have to as they rushed for 417 yds. Dalton Minton threw for a touchdown for Horn Lake but also threw 4 interceptions while Peyton Logan rushed 8 times for 53 yds. Defensively, Justin Wilson had 13 tackles, Undra Redmon had 9 tackles and Will Anderson had 8 for Horn Lake. Mathew McWhirter averaged over 50 yds a punt for the Eagles as well.
