Game recaps from August 28 & 29

Desoto Central 49 Lewisburg 33

A high scoring Desoto County shootout with plenty of outstanding performances went the way of the Jaguars as they earned their first win of the year. JR RB Alan Lamar carried 17 times for a whopping 279 yds (16.4/carry) and 3 TD's while JR QB Cameron Bowman was 16-21 for 233 yds and 3 TD's. Bowman connected with 9 different receivers on the night, led by JR Jesse Curry who had 3 catches for 81 yds and a TD. Lewisburg JR QB Jake Harville continues to put up most impressive numbers. Harville was 22-39 for 352 yds and 5 TD's while rushing for 49 yds on 12 carries. Harville is completing 61% of his passes for 550 yds and 9 TD's with only 1 interception through 2 games. SO RB Mark Smith had 68 yds rushing on 10 carries for the Patriots. SR WR Tucker Wammack had 8 catches for 139 yds and 2 TD's while SR WR Benji Galbreath had 5 catches for 97 yds and a TD.


Arlington 24 Collierville 17

In just his 2nd ever game in high school, Arlington FR QB Tate Kolwyck led his team to their second straight win. Kolwyck was 22-30 for 227 yds and 3 TD's. 5 different receivers caught at least 3 passes each and they were led by JR Bryan Lewis with 6 catches for 62 yds and a TD. JR Mitchell Everett had 5 catches for 72 yds and a TD while SR Jackson Boring caught 4 balls for 53 yds and a score. Collierville SR QB Alex Hicks threw for 200 yds and a TD and rushed for a TD as well. His favorite receiver on the night was SR Drew Van de Vuurst who caught 6 passes for 62 yds. East 47 Westwood 0

The Mustangs "O" continues to click as they score 47 points for the second straight week and the defense is pretty good as well. JR RB DeVante Turner rushed for 137 yds and 5 TD's on just 14 carries to lead the way. SR FB Roderick Fields (5'10, 254) had 6 carries for 67 yds and a score as well. The East "D" led by SR CB Kyland Tate, SR DT Vasco Curry & SR DT Ray Taylor held the Longhorns to 15 yds of total offense in the game (-15 rushing, 31 passing) and also had 2 interceptions as well.

St. Benedict 35 ECS 24

SR QB Mark Kovacs continued his hot start and his St. Benedict team is now 2-0 because of that. Kovacs threw for 206 yds and 3 TD's to lead his team to the win. Kovacs now has 7 TD passes in 2 games. JR RB Colton Cochran chipped in with 107 yds rushing and a TD on 20 carries. SR WR's Tyler Currie, Joey Magnifico and JR TE Brennan Ryan all had TD receptions for St. Benedict. ECS trailed 14-0 early before JR Carter Dunn returned a kickoff 98 yds for a TD. It was the first of 17 straight points for ECS. SO WR Zack Genereaux caught 3 passes for 85 yds and 2 TD's from 2 different QB's-one from SR Alex Smith & one from SO Keegan Westbrook.

Southaven 35 Trezevant 34

It wasn't a dramatic as last year when Chargers kicker Ryan Robbins nailed a FG with 8 sec left to give Southaven the 17-14 win but there was plenty of exciting football. Trezevant led 22-0 after one quarter behind the play of SO Cordarrian Richardson who had 3 of his 4 TD's. But Southaven continued to fight back behind the play of SR QB Nic Kennedy and SR WR Terrance Davis, Jr. Kennedy was 16-32 for 218 yds and 2 TD's and rushed for another TD. Davis caught 10 passes for 113 yds and a TD and had 118 return yds in the game, including a 80 yd return that set up the go ahead TD with 3 minutes left to go in the third quarter.  


Horn Lake 20 Lake Cormorant 13

The "Lake Bowl" went the the way of the Eagles who are now 2-0 on the year. Horn Lake SR QB Dalton Minton threw for 258 yds and 2 TD's while SO RB Peyton Logan rushed for 130 yds on just 16 carries. SR WR Todd Wilson had 6 catches for 166 yds and 2 TD's as the Eagles overcame 155 yards in penalties to get the victory. JR DB Juriquius Jones led the defense with 8 tackles. Gators SR QB Bailey Walker had over 250 yds of total offense (110-passing, 141-rushing) while SR LB Leo Jackson led the defense with 8 tackles. Murfreesboro Oakland 35 White Station 14

JR Dillon Mitchell electrified the Oakland faithful on the first play from scrimmage as he took a pass from JR QB Burk Williams and raced 77 yds for a touchdown 20 seconds into the game. That was the high point of the game as the Spartans weren't able to do much else. Williams finished with 151 yds passing with Mitchell catching 6 balls for 101 of those yds. Millington 20 Brighton 7

The Trojans improve to 2-0 on the season with a two headed monster leading the way. JR QB Eldon Tyms rushed for 142 yds on just 12 carries while SO RB Keno Taylor had 117 yds a TD on 20 carries to lead the Black and Gold to the win. Tyms threw for 123 yds as well including an outstanding throw and catch with JR wideout Kip Fleming for a 30 yd touchdown. Fleming had 5 catches on the night for 60 yds and SR LB Patrick Macon had 10 tackles and 2 sacks on the evening to lead the defense. 

MUS 47 Kingsbury 7

The Owls scored early and often en route to getting their first win of the year and SR QB Marcus Evans & SR RB Colton Neel were right in the middle of it all. Evans rushed for 62 yds and 2 TD's and was 6-8 passing for 92 yds and 2 TD's while Neel rushed for 145 yds and 2 TD's on just 12 carries as MUS had nearly 400 yds of total offense for the game.

Central 32 Mitchell 0

Everyone knows about Warriors QB Deddrick Thomas. He did his usual thing Friday night vs the Tigers but a sophomore and the defense stole the show. SO RB Rashad Haynes had 141 yds rushing and a TD on just 14 carries before leaving the game late in the third with appeared to be two broken bones in his left forearm. The Central "D" held Mitchell to 43 yds rushing and forced 4 turnovers. Thomas showed off his defensive stylings with a 68 yd interception return in the fourth quarter to go along with rushing for and throwing for a TD.

Tipton Rosemark 36 Tunica Academy 13

The visitors from Tunica scored to start the game and to end the game but everything else in between was all Rebels and FR QB AJ Hightower. Hightower accounted for 4 TD's (2-rushing, 2-passing) and almost 270 yds of total offense (78-rushing, 191-passing). 5 different TRA receivers caught at least 3 passes and were led by SR WR Logan Stewart who caught 7 passes for 45 and also returned an interception 35 yds for a TD. JR Ethan Carpenter had 2 TD catches for the Rebels as well. 

Houston 55 Bolton 21

The Houston offense was churning out the yards and the points vs the Bolton defense. Houston led after one quarter 14-0. The Wildcats then tied it at 14 before the Mustangs took over. Houston scored 41 unanswered points including 21 in the second quarter to remain undefeated. The Mustangs had almost 500 yds of total offense in the game (393-rushing, 95-passing) and the trio of SR Chase Moss-Pioreck, SO Seth Cartwright and SR Colby Cartwright led the way. Moss-Pioreck had 182 yds rushing and 2 TD's on just 14 carries, Colby Cartwright had 120 yds rushing and a TD on 13 carries and Seth Cartwright rushed for 68 yds and 3 TD's on only 6 carries. SR LB Aryton Scafer picked off a pass and returned it 28 yds for a TD. Bolton SR RB Braylon Porter led the Wildcats with 126 yds rushing and a TD on 11 carries.

Craigmont 42 Wooddale 18

It was the Andrew McIntyre show as the Chiefs improve to 2-0 on the season. McIntye accounted for all 6 TD's in the game. He was 18-26 for 223 yds and 5 TD's and rushed for another. His two favorite targets were seniors Kristian Wilkerson and Darrious Threlkeld. Wilkerson had 7 catches for 66 yds and 2 TD's while Threlkeld caught 5 passes for 86 yds and 3 TD's. JR RB Brandon Fields added 94 yds on just 9 carries. SO QB Jerry Craine continued his exceptional play to start the year. Craine threw for over 200 yds for the second straight week and had all three Wooddale touchdowns (2-rushing, 1-passing). 

Olive Branch 37 Raleigh Egypt 6

Sanchez Blake returned the game's opening kickoff back 84 yds for a TD and it was the start of a huge first quarter for the Conquistadors as they won their first game of the season. Olive Branch led 30-0 after that first quarter and they were a number of contributors. QB Mario Nolan-Dillard was 3-3 passing for 104 yds and a TD. Caleb Brown rushed for 2 TD's and 54 yds on just 3 carries and Donovan Watkins rushed for 63 yds and a TD on 5 carries. Raleigh Egypt SR QB DaVonte Boyland had a solid game. Boyland rushed for 76 yds on 13 carries and was 9-14 passing for 77 yds and a TD.

CBHS 28 Germantown 7

The Purple Wave took care of business on both sides of the ball en route to their first win of the season. CBHS rushed for 328 yds and had two different backs rush for over 100 yds. JR Deonte Woods had 108 yds and a TD on 16 carries while JR Austin Lee had 107 yds and 2 TD's on just 10 carries. The Brothers also had 4 interceptions in the game. JR QB Jacob Ivy had a 76 yd TD run for the Red Devils.

Bartlett 48 Douglass 6   

The Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season behind the play of QB Jonathan Bowlan, RB Jurieen Martin and their defense. Bowlan was 5-10 passing for 128 yds and touchdowns of 9, 48 and 54 yds. Martin rushed for 166 yds and 2 TD's on 16 carries. He has almost 400 yds rushing on the season. The Bartlett "D" held the Red Devils to only 54 yds of total offense for the game and SR DB Austin Kellon returned a fumble 10 yds for a TD while JR DB DaVonte Stigler intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yds for a score.

Southwind 44 Sheffield 0

6 different Jaguars scored touchdowns on the way to their first victory of the season. SR RB Zach Thomas rushed for 138 yds and a TD on only 8 carries while JR RB Tyler Brewer had 99 yds and a TD on 6 carries. SO QB Kameron Williams rushed for a TD and was 5-9 for 122 yds and 2 TD's with SR Tripp Terrell and JR Andrew Hunter on the receiving end of those scores. SR Kendrick Gibson and SO Sylvester Settles both returned fumbles for touchdowns and the Southwind defense also had 3 interceptions in the game. Sheffield SR QB Raymond Porterfield had 53 yds rushing and was 6-10 passing for 112 yds.

Briarcrest 54 Carver 12

Everyone got into the act as the Saints scored the first 41 points of the game in the first half and got their first win of the season. SR QB Ben Ellis rushed for a TD and was 5-7 passing for 122 yds and 2 TD's. SO QB Trey Harrington got in on the action as he went 5-6 for 79 yds and a TD. JR WR Hunter Hill caught 4 passes for 44 yds and a TD and returned a punt 48 yds for a score. SO DB Jake Powers picked off a pass and returned it 30 yds for a score. Carver SR QB Anthony Foster threw for 100 yds and a TD. SR WR Kevin Madkins caught 3 passes for 85 yds and a TD and SR WR Jimmy Harris returned a kickoff 92 yds for a TD.

FACS 62 Fayette Academy 0

The Crusaders "D" was downright stingy in this one as they improve to 2-0 on the season. FACS limited the Vikings to 5 yds of total offense for the game and SR QB Bobby Downing took care of the rest. Downing only completed 5 passes on the night but 4 of them went for touchdowns. Downing was 5-7 for 134 yds and TD's of 12, 28, 35 and 51 yds and he also rushed for a 22 yd score. FR RB Caleb Johnson had 2 carries for 75 yds and a TD SR RB James Alexander had 5 carries for 62 yds and 2 TD's.

Harding Academy 38 West Carroll 8

The Lions got their first win of the 2014 season with contributions from a number of players. FR QB Zac Montgomery was 7-12 passing for 135 yds and a TD. SR RB Carliss Settles only carried 5 times but gained 94 yds and had 2 TD's. SO WR Calvin Austin caught a 69 yd TD pass and had 118 return yds in the game including a 85 yd kickoff return for a TD and fellow sophomore Marquavious Moore rushed 6 times for 55 yds and a TD.

Cordova 13 Kirby 6

The Wolves got their first win of the year with the help of the defense. The Cordova "D" picked off 3 passes on the night and none more important than in the final seconds when they intercepted a pass in the end zone as the Cougars were trying to tie the game. Cordova SO QB Devin Coleman threw a 39 yd TD pass to JR Kalan Miller to tie the game at 6 and SR DeMarcus Johnson scored the game winner in the 4th quarter. Cougars SR QB Michael Mason threw a 37 yd TD pass to SR WR Darius Stafford and SR RB Telvin Rucker had 91 yds rushing in the game.

Northpoint Christian 44 West Memphis Christian 8

Big plays were on the menu on the evening as the Trojans got their first win of the year. Northpoint Christian scored 6 touchdowns in the game and the shortest play was 27 yds. JR RB Christian Saulsberry led the way with 6 carries for a whopping 148 yds and TD's of 27, 34 and 65. FR QB Tyler Thweat had 11 carries for 142 yds and a 35 yd TD.  JR RB Devin Davis had 3 carries for 78 yds and a 65 yd TD and Trevor Willis returned a kickoff 77 yds for a score. SR QB Tyler Baker had 26 carries for 226 yds and a TD for the Black Knights while FR DB Daniel Hunter led the way on defense with 2 interceptions and 5 tackles.

Dyer Co 19 Overton 6

The Wolverines could not get over the hump in their season opener although they outgained the Choctaws for the game. Overton had 317 yds of total offense to 185 for Dyer Co but could only punch it into the end zone once in the game. JR RB Raheem Haynes rushed for 103 yds on 20 carries for Overton. 

Tupelo 48 Center Hill 7

This game was tied at 7 at the half and everyone makes halftime adjustments. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Tupelo made better ones on this night. Center Hill had 173 yds of total offense in the first half and only 15 yds in the second half. JR QB Dan Ellington finished 16-23 for 151 yds and a TD. JR WR Jonathan Weeks caught 7 of those passes for 91 yds and the TD. JR LB Josh Williams had 10 tackles to lead the Center Hill defense.

Covington 35 Hillcrest 0

The Chargers earned their first win of the year by forcing a couple of turnovers and holding the Vikings to 113 yds of total offense.QB Malcolm Taylor ran for 2 TD's and threw for another.
