McCracken Co (KY) 52 Southaven 49
If you like offensive football, this was the game for you. Two minutes into the game, it was tied at 7. After the first quarter, it was 21-14 Southaven. There were three touchdowns scored in the final four minutes of the first half and Southaven led 42-28. In fact, after the Chargers scored two minutes into the third quarter, they led 49-28 and then the wheels came off as the host team scored 24 straight points including the game winning field goal with less than a minute remaining in the game. Southaven was led by standout WR Terrence Davis, Jr. who caught 3 touchdown passes and returned a kick 70 yds for a fourth score. QB Nic Kennedy rushed for 2 touchdowns in addition to his three touchdown passes to Davis.
Craigmont 48 Fairley 12
Let's play a little word association game. The first two words out of your mouth when I say Andrew McIntyre are...en fuego? The hottest player in the Shelby Metro area was at it again in this game as the Craigmont senior quarterback threw seven touchdown passes in the game. McIntyre now has 21 TD passes on the year and just threw his first interception of the season in this game. McIntyre finished 14 of 23 for 281 yds on the night so half of the passes he completed on the evening went for touchdowns. WR Kristian Wilkerson was his favorite target. He caught 4 passes for 73 yds and 3 TD's. 5 different Craigmont players caught touchdown passes including Darrious Threlkeld, Jeremy Jackson, Courtney Bullord & Dareon Madison. Fairley QB Dewayne Betts was 11-22 for 173 yds and 2 TD's. WR Cortney Slater had 3 catches for 93 yds and both touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
ECS 45 Harding Academy 13
The Eagles trailed 7-0 early and then Harrison Cox took over. The senior scored 18 straight points on a fumble return, 44 yd run and an interception return and ECS never looked back. Christian Rosenberger also returned a fumble for a touchdown and Riley Watkins threw two touchdown passes for the Eagles. Freshman QB Zac Montgomery threw for 189 yds and 2 touchdowns for the Lions.
Houston 46 Germantown 21
The Mustangs start the season 5-0 for the second straight season under head coach Will Hudgens and it was a dominating offensive performance. Houston had 535 yds of total offense including 395 yds rushing. There were contributions from a number of players but QB Jared Schmidt led the way. Schmidt rushed 9 times for 94 yds and 3 TD's and was 8-17 passing for 140 yds and a TD. Colby Cartwright had 20 carries for 145 yds and a TD while brother Seth carries 7 times for 76 yds and 2 TD's. RB Chase Moss-Pioreck rushed 7 times for 78 yds and caught 4 passes for 132 yds and a TD as well. QB Jacob Ivy threw for 122 yds and 2 TD's and RB Evan Hoover had a 68 yd TD run for the Red Devils.
Lewisburg 47 Mitchell 40
Another game where if you like offense, you should have been here. The two teams combined for 1016 yds of total offense and when the dust settled, the Patriots came back and got the win. Amazingly, this game was 7-0 after one quarter. Lewisburg QB Jake Harville led the way with 14 carries for 125 yds and 2 TD's and 12-20 for 222 yds and 3 TD's passing. RB Ben Hoffman added 100 yds rushing on just 15 carries. WR Benji Galbraith had 3 receptions for 77 yds and 2 TD's and continues to average over 20 yds a reception on the year. Mitchell QB Tomadreus Trezevant was spectacular as well with 390 yds of total offense (306-passing, 84-rushing) and 2 touchdowns. WR Jaylon Moore had 6 catches for 134 yds on offense and an interception on defense while WR DeAndre Bobo had 5 catches for 101 yds and a TD for the Tigers. Rian Conrad had a 85 yd kick return for a touchdown and LB Calvan Scott had 11 tackles to lead the Mitchell defense and his 45 yd punt return for a touchdown gave them the lead before Lewisburg rallied for the win.
Millington 30 Bartlett 7
The Trojans improved to 5-0 on the year and did it on both sides of the ball. The Millington defense forced 4 turnovers in the game including 2 interceptions from standout LB Patrick Macon who returned one for a touchdown. The Trojans offense churned out over 400 yds of total offense for the game. RB Keno Taylor rushed for 132 yds and a TD while QB Eldon Tyms rushed for 117 yds and a touchdown while throwing for 158 yds and a TD. WR Demarius Curry caught that touchdown pass and had 5 catches for 86 yds in the game.
Horn Lake 35 St. Benedict 28
A matchup of unbeaten 3-0 teams over on Germantown Parkway was one of the highlight games of the night. The two teams combined for only 4 wins last year and going into this game, had combined for 6 wins. Horn Lake was able to hold on and move to 4-0 behind the play of QB Dalton Minton who rushed for a TD and was 20-38 for 323 yds and 2 touchdowns through the air. WR Todd Wilson had 12 receptions for 215 yds and both scores & Payton Logan returned the second half kickoff 98 yds for a touchdown which would end up being the game winner for the Mississippi Eagles. The Tennessee Eagles were led by Joey Magnifico with an outstanding performance as he had all four touchdowns (2-rushing, 2-receiving) for the home team. Magnifico rushed for 55 yds on 6 carries and caught 8 passes for 142 yds. QB Mark Kovacs finished with 250 yds passing on the night.
East 30 Central 6
A Thursday night game between two high quality teams was all Mustangs as they improve to 5-0. This was a 6-0 game at the half before the Mustangs broke it open. Junior RB DeVante Turner had 26 carries for 145 yds and 3 TD's and the East defense did its part as well as they force 4 turnovers.
Trezevant 42 Southwind 6
Trezevant reached the 4A semifinals last year and if they continue playing like they have been, they could find themselves right back there again...or further. The Bears "D" forced four turnovers in the game and three of those led to touchdowns as they held a potent Jaguars offense to only one touchdown and -43 yds rushing. Southwind is the only team other than Southaven to score on Trezevant in five games this year. RB Jamal Jones, who has committed to Arkansas St., scored three touchdowns in the game and had an interception as well. Torrey Mabone, who has committed to SE Missouri St, had 5 sacks in the game.
Tipton Rosemark 34 Macon Road 0
Logan Stewart and AJ Hightower led the way for the Rebels as they improved to 4-1 on the year. Hightower rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another while Stewart continues to score numerous ways. He rushed for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception 35 yds for a score. Stewart has intercepted 5 passes on the year and returned four of them for touchdowns. The Tipton Rosemark defense allowed only 87 yds of total offense in the game.
Olive Branch 41 Rosa Fort 6
The Conquistadors were dominant in securing their fourth win of the year despite giving up an early 60 yd run for a touchdown and trailing 6-0. The Olive Branch defense allowed only 93 yds in the game and 60 of those were on one run! Robert Miller intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yds for a touchdown while Willie Bland returned a fumble 23 yds for a score,blocked a kick, recovered a fumble and had 8 tackles in the game to pace the defense which held Rosa Fort to -27 yds of total offense and 0 first downs in the second half. The offense did its part as well paced by Dontavis Bruce and Donovan Watkins. Bruce had 135 yds and a TD on only 16 carries while Watkins had 120 yds and a TD on 13 carries.
Ridgeway 42 Kirby 13
The Roadrunners were not looking ahead to next week's matchup with unbeaten Whitehaven as they improve to 4-0 behind the play of their standout running backs and the defense. Arkansas St. commitment Earl Harrison rushed for 217 yds and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries and Lilotis Walker had 9 carries for 78 yds to lead Ridgeway. The defense forced three turnovers in the game and were led by DT Anthony Wayne with 6 tackles, 1 TFL and he also recovered a fumble.
White Station 28 Hamilton 12
The Spartans got their first win of the year behind a nearly perfect performance from their quarterback. Burk Williams was 13-14 on the night for 175 yds and a TD to lead White Station to the victory. WR Terry Wright caught 4 passes for 69 yds and a TD, Dillon Mitchell had 7 receptions for 92 yds and rushed for a touchdown and Cameron Dillard blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown for the Spartans. Hamilton QB Jonathan Robinson rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats.
Collierville 28 Wooddale 6
The Dragons defense continues to impress as they improve to 4-1 on the year. Collierville allowed 1 touchdown or less for the third straight game while intercepting four passes and have only given up 55 points on the season. Ed Pomphrett was the offensive star for the second straight week. One week after rushing for 206 yds, Pomphrett added 120 yds on only 15 carries and three touchdowns.
Whitehaven 34 Melrose 12
The Tigers improve to 5-0 on the year with a balanced offensive attack and a defense that completely shut down the Golden Wildcats. Whitehaven held Melrose to -70 yds rushing in the game and had 5 sacks and numerous TFL's en route to the victory. The Tigers had 212 yds on the ground and 186 via the air. Jordan Williams was 12-19 with a touchdown pass to Kerrick Jones, who caught 7 balls for 83 yds. Melrose QB Cedrick Crawford was 16-28 for 200 yds and 2 TD's. Jermaine Johnson had 8 catches for 77 yds and a touchdown while Tony Pollard had 3 catches for 88 yds and a score.
Northpoint Christian 27 Lausanne 14
The area's leading scorer was at it again Friday night but this time he had a little help. RB Christian Saulsberry leads the Shelby Metro area with 12 touchdowns and 72 points scored through the first four weeks of the season. He had two more touchdowns to go along with 151 yds rushing on 18 carries to lead the Trojans to the win. QB Nelson Fabrizius kept pace with him by rushing 19 times for 122 yds and 2 TD's and going 7-9 passing for 62 yds. Lausanne QB Spencer Mackey rushed and threw for a touchdown to lead the Lynx.
Hernando 39 Lake Cormorant 0
The Tigers evened their record at 2-2 with the shutout victory. WR Caleb Wilcke caught 6 passes for 115 yds and 3 touchdowns as Hernando had 476 yds of total offense on the night. QB Will Craft threw for 159 yds and 2 scores while Robert Wilcke also added a touchdown pass. RB Karleke Oliver led the ground game with 10 carries for 81 yds and a touchdown while Quentin Frazier added 80 yds on 12 carries and Peyton Campbell returned a fumble 23 yds for a score as well for the Tigers.
Arlington 42 Kingsbury 0
Arlington rolled up over 400 yds of total offense to go to 4-1 on the year. Freshman QB Tate Kolwyck was 14-24 for 206 yds and 3 touchdowns to lead the Tigers. RB Keelon Webber rushed for two touchdowns and caught a third from Kolwyck. RB Tevarious Foster led Arlington with 6 carries for 81 yds and a score while Jackson Boring was the leading receiver with 4 catches for 55 yds and a touchdown.
Desoto Central 13 CBHS 7
A hard fought defensive battle went the way of the Jaguars and the Shelby Metro area's leading rusher did not disappoint. RB Alan Lamar had 30 carries for 155 yds and a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass from QB Cameron Bowman and even had an interception as the Desoto Central defense forced four turnovers in the game.
Cordova 13 Bolton 0
The Wolves get their first district win of the year over the Wildcats behind the legs of their senior running back. Lavar Johnson rushed 17 times for 144 yds while Demarcus Johnson and Harold Lacy scored touchdowns for Cordova while QB Devin Coleman was 8-13 passing for 106 yds. RB Braylon Porter led Bolton with 17 carries for 93 yds.
Briarcrest 14 Jackson Academy (MS) 10
Not a lot of offense in this one but it came at the most opportune time for the Saints as they improve to 4-1 on the year. Pinned back at their own 3 yd line in the fourth quarter, QB Ben Ellis hooked up with standout Hunter Hill on a 97 yd touchdown pass to give Briarcrest the win. RB Rashad Muhammad had kicked off the scoring in the opening quarter but the Saints struggled to move the ball the rest of the night. Their defense was up to the task however and they were able to come away with the win.
Manassas 47 MLK Prep 6
Manassas improved to 3-1 on the year as 5 different players scored on the evening. The Tigers were led by RB Ladarius Yancey who only touched the ball 8 times but rushed for 170 yds and touchdowns of 13,38 and 97 yds. QB James Smith rushed for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Antonio Turner and Cordarius Robinson recovered a fumble for a touchdown as the Manassas defense held the Rams to only 79 yds of total offense. QB DeMarkus Davis connected with Tanerio Lauderdale for a 47 yd touchdown pass for MLK Prep.
Center Hill 42 KIPP 14
The Mustangs scored early and often and as usual, they were led by their standout quarterback. Danterius Ellington accounted for 300 yds of total offense on the evening and scored 4 touchdowns (2-rushing, 2-passing) to lead Center Hill. Ellington had 14 carries for 98 yds and was 12-14 passing for 202 yds. RB Kaelin Thomas rushed for 64 yds and two touchdowns on 6 carries and caught a touchdown pass from Ellington . Keith Hall led the defense with 11 tackles in the game.
South Panola 48 MUS 9
The Owls are one of the few teams that can say they have beaten perennial state and national powerhouse South Panola on their own field, defeating the Tigers back in 2009 on their way to back to back undefeated seasons and state championships. Tonight, however wasn't going to be one of those nights. The Owls were outgained 447-158. Jack Christenbury led the defense with 9 tackles while David Watkins had 8 and William Rantzow added 7.
McNairy Central 38 Fayette Ware 14
The Wildcats led in this one 6-0 and statistically held their own with the home team but just could not put the ball in the end zone enough to come away with the win. Fayette Ware had 259 of total offense to 291 for McNairy Central. RB Sammie Mitchell led the way with 12 carries for 87 yds and a touchdown. QB Ronald Billingsley was 5-7 passing for 82 yds and a touchdown while QB Gregory Goforth was 5-13 for 84 yds. WR Raidarious Anderson had 2 catches for 60 yds and a touchdown while Caleb Malone and Antavius Hines led the defense with 7.5 tackles each.
