Week 9 recaps

Craigmont 28 East 27 OT
Last year these two teams played in an instant classic with names like Craft & Kimbrow. It ended up with Craigmont winning 49-48. This year's contest had the same outcome-a 1 point win for the Chiefs.  Craigmont led 21-0 after 3 behind 3 TD's from SR RB Walter Crutchfield who finished with 169 yds on 33 carries. East came roaring back with 21 4th quarter points to force OT. JR RB Antonio Clifton had 2 of his 3 TD's in that quarter and finished with 145 yds on 31 carries. Each team scored in OT but the Mustangs went for 2 & came up short. Craigmont is 7-2 and will play Bartlett next while East is 4-5 and will play Whitehaven next.

Covington 24 Milan 13
The Chargers trailed 7-2 at the half before rallying to stay unbeaten behind standout SR RB Johnston White. White did it all for the Chargers in this game. He had 191 yds rushing and 3 TD's , tackled the Milan RB in the end zone for a safety and the first points of the game and recovered a fumble in the 4th quarter to stop the last Milan drive. Aretavious Brown added 100 yds rushing on 14 carries, QB T.A. Watson threw for 118 yds & Carlos Williams had 2 interceptions for the Chargers. Covington is 9-0 (6-0) and will play Ripley next.

Whitehaven 37 Mitchell 7
Whitehaven rolled up 438 yds of total offense to stay on track for a second straight unbeated regular season. Mark Dodson had 282 yds rushing on just 20 carries & a 85 yd TD to lead the way. Their defense was just as impressive with 2 safeties and Rodrick Owens 75 yd INT return for a TD. Whitehaven is 9-0 and will play East next while Mitchell is 7-2 and will play Hillcrest next.

Ridgeway 42 Germantown 39
Running backs at Ridgeway have been on a single name basis lately. Walton, Dawson, Johnson...Orlando Johnson. In a shootout over on Poplar Pike, the SR RB & leading rusher in the Shelby Metro area was again spectacular. Johnson had 22 carries in the game for 336 yds & TD's of 76,77 and 95. SO QB Braxton Conard had 3 TD passes in the game & finished 10-21 for 245 yds. JR WR Toreano Barnes caught 4 of those passes for 152 yds and 2 TD's. The Roadrunners had 673 yds of total offense despite having over 150 yds in penalties. The Red Devils had over 350 yds of total offense as well. SR QB Samuel Martin threw for 157 yds & 2 TD's while running for 1 as well. SR WR Caylon Weathers caught 6 passes for 120 yds and a 58 yd TD. Ridgeway is 6-3 (5-1) and will play Collierville next. Germantown is 6-3 (5-1) and will play Wooddale next.

Fayette Academy 21 ECS 20
In a game that featured plenty of offense, it was decided by a missed XP with 4 minutes left that gave the Vikings the win. Fayette Academy had 448 yds of total offense & were led by SR RB Marcus Miller. Miller had TD's of 21,34 and 52 yds and finished with 189 yds on 25 carries. QB Alan Smith had 133 yds passing & 66 yds rushing for the Vikings. The Eagles had 382 yds of their own & as usual were led by SR QB Brent Rooker. Rooker had a 35 yd TD run to go with his 76 yds rushing & was 12-25 passing for 232 yds & 2 TD's. SR WR Alex Armfield caught 3 of those for 146 yds & TD's of 56 and 74. Fayette Academy is 7-2 and will play JCS next. ECS is 4-5 and will play Bishop Byrne next.

West Memphis 23 Cabot 20
For the second straight week, the Blue Devils trailed going into the 4th quarter and for the second straight week, they were able to come back and get the win. Jarvis Cooper scored from 11 yds out to give West Memphis the victory.  Cooper finished with 100 yds on 18 carries. QB Kody Frasure was 11-22 for 174 yds & 1 TD. DeAnfernee Davis caught the TD pass & had 3 receptions for 81 yds. West Memphis is 6-2 (3-2) and will play Searcy.

DeSoto Central 39 Tupelo 34
Down 1. 55 seconds left. No sweat. SO QB Austin Riley hit JR WR Stephen Bradley for a 40 yd TD pass with 35 seconds left to give the Jaguars the victory. It only took DeSoto Central w plays and 20 seconds to go 75 yds after falling behind. Riley had been benched in the 1st half after going 3-12 with 2 interceptions. He redeemed himself after halftime by going 12-18 for 199 yds and 2 TD's including the game winner. DeSoto Central is 6-3 (2-3) and will play Southaven next.

South Panola 35 Southaven 33
The Chargers fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter, battled back to tie it in the second quarter, fell behind again & came up just short in the end. QB Shea Chism threw 4 TD passes in the game with the last one coming with 5 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 2. Southaven could not convert the 2 point conversion to tie the game & South Panola ran out the clock to end the game. Southaven is 6-3 (3-2) and will play DeSoto Central next.

Manassas 52 MAHS 14
SR RB Montrel Sims led a ground attack that amassed 376 yds en route to the win. Sims had 3 TD's & 102 yds on just 6 carries while SR Melvin Bond added a TD & 101 yds on 5 carries. SR Dwayne Clark intercepted a pass & returned it 55 yds for a score & SR Randy Blackdurn scooped up a fumble and returned it 73 yds for a TD as well. SO Javonte Williams had a 79 yd kickoff return for a TD for MAHS while QB LaMarien Watkins had 73 yds rushing & 124 yds passing and a TD as well. Manassas is 6-3 and will play Raleigh Egypt next. MAHS is 2-7 and will play Harding Academy next.

Raleigh Egypt 38 Hillcrest 0
Offense,defense,special teams-the Pharoahs had it all working against the Vikings. First the defense-Raleigh Egypt held Hillcrest to -15 yds of total offense for the game & SR Elijah Muhammed returned a fumble 46 yds for a TD. Muhammed was the special teams star as well returning a punt 53 yds for a score. SO Narcquese White led a rushing attack that had 270 yds for the game. White had 115 yds on 7 carries and a TD while SO Shundarius Turner finished with 12 carries for 100 yds and a TD. Raleigh Egypt is 4-5 (3-1) and will play Manassas next. Hillcrest is 4-5 (2-2) and will play Mitchell next.

Sheffield 68 Northside 0
Terrance Dixon and Trence Blevins did in one game what most players dream of doing in a season. Blevins returned the opening kickoff of the game 92 yds for a TD, returned a punt 42 yds for a score and finished it off with a 26 yd INT return for a TD. Dixon had 191 yds rushing on 6 carries and 5 of those went for TD's. SO Jatavious Carter returned an interception 36 yds for a TD as well. Sheffield is 5-3 and will play Fairley next. Northside is 0-10 and their season is over.

CBHS 45 Douglass 6
The Purple Wave raced out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back. JR RB Ramadi Warren had 2 TD & 100 yds rushing on jut 6 carries to lead CBHS. 6 different players scored for the Brothers on the night. CBHS is 8-1 and will play St. Benedict next. Douglass is 2-7 and will play Kingsbury next.

Bolton 28 Arlington 7
The Wildcats are the surprise team in the area. Coach Tommy Miller's team won just 1 game last year. After the win vs Arlington, they are 5-4 and on the verge of making the playoffs. Bolton dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball gaining 328 yds on the ground while holding the Tigers to 38 yds rushing. 5'5 SR RB Brandon Henderson led the way with 211 yds on just 23 carries and 2 TD's. Bolton is 5-4 (2-2) and will play Cordova next. Arlington is 7-2 (3-1) and will play Millington next.

Lewisburg 29 North Pontotoc 26
The Patriots win another close game. Lewisburg's last 3 games have been decided by a total of 11 points. Chris Taylor had a 63 yd TD run & caught a TD pass to lead the Patriots. Xavier Morris had a 50 yd TD run & 117 yds rushing on the night. Lewisburg is 7-3 (2-2) and will play New Albany next.

MUS 41 White Station 28
Shane Tucker had 166 yds rushing while Colton Neel had 2 TD's to lead the Owls to the win. QB Jordan Rodgers was 10-15 for for 105 yds and a TD as well. White Station was led by JR QB Cedric Wilson, SR WR Donald Gray and JR WR Eldridge Thompson. Wilson was spectacular in defeat going 22-35 for 403 yds and 2 TD's. Gray, very easily the most exciting player in the Shelby Metro area, caught 10 passes for 203 yds and TD's of 80 and 24 yds while Thompson caught 7 passes for 151 yds. MUS is 7-2 and will play Briarcrest next while White Station is 3-6 and will play Central next.

Lake Cormorant 17 Hernando 14 OT
Another Lake Cormorant game into OT but this one was in favor of the Gators. SO Andy Hernandez kicked the game winning FG just after SR Brandon Anderson recovered a Hernando fumble to give the Gators the win. Alex Jones & Jeremy McKinney had TD's for Lake Cormorant while Travis McMahon & Leon Cunningham scored for the Tigers. Lake Cormorant is 5-4 (2-3) and will play Clarksdale next. Hernando is 3-6 (1-4) and will play Saltillo next.

Collierville 46 Wooddale 8
Meet Clay Casey, touchdown machine. Casey had 4 TD passes on the night, boosting his total over the last 3 games to 14 TD that he has accounted for. Casey finished 10-20 for 192 yds while SR Andy Paton had 96 yds rushing on just 5 carries and a TD. 6 different Dragons scored TD's including SO Drew Van de Vuurst who caught a TD pass and returned a punt 59 yds for a score. JR QB Brandon Robinson had 152 yds passing and a TD for the Cardinals. Collierville is 5-4 (3-2) and will play Ridgeway next. Wooddale is 2-7 (1-5) and will play Germantown next.

Jackson North Side 13 Millington 9
The #2 ranked team in the state in 5A came to Millington & escaped with the victory. The game was expected to be high scoring but turned into a defensive struggle. The only high points for the Trojans on the night were SR K Brendan VanEmelen's 32 yd FG and SR FS George Odom's 86 yd punt return for a TD.Columbus next. Millington is 5-4 and will play Arlington next.

Overton 27 Kirby 20
SR QB Darius Boone had 2 early TD passes but it was SO RB Damon Ross' 20 yd TD run that gave the Wolverines the win. JR RB Jerald Bailey scored a TD as well & rushed for 147 yds on just 19 carries. SO QB Cedric Crawford had 138 yds passing & 2 TD's for the Cougars while SR RB Bryson Honor also scored twice. Overton is 3-6 (2-4) and will play Southwind next. Kirby is 1-8 (0-6) and will play Houston next.

Southwind 26 Houston 21
The Jaguars fell behind 21-0 in the 1st quarter before rallying for the win. SR QB Darius Henderson 4th TD pass of the game & 3rd to SR WR Jimmy Keys put Southwind ahead to stay. Henderson finished 16-33 for 255 yds with Keys catching 8 of those for 167 yds to go with the three scores. Marquis Marshall led the Mustangs with 85 yds rushing. Southwind is 6-3 (4-2) and will play Overton next. Houston is 6-3 (4-2) and will play Kirby next.

Olive Branch 21 Grenada 0
Sam Craft accounted for all 3 TD's and the Olive Branch D bend but didn't break in the win. Craft had 18 carries for 98 yds & a TD & was 13-27 passing for 231 yds and 2 TD's. Jamil Collins & Alfred Dickens were on the receiving end of those touchdowns. The Conquistador D gave us 248 yds passing but had 2 interceptions and pitched the shutout. Olive Branch is 8-1 (4-1) and will play Columbus next.

Harding Academy 35 Tipton Rosemark 0
The Lions jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to the win. SR RB Cody Cottrell had 3 TD's and 100 yds rushing on only 9 carries. The Harding D did its part by holding the Rebels to 113 yds of total offense. Harding Academy is 7-2 and will play MAHS next while Tipton Rosemark is 2-7 and will play USJ next.

St. Benedict 49 Carver 6
The Eagles put up a 28 spot in the first quarter and never looked back in their first game since losing Auburn commitment Jordan Wilkins to a season ending injury. JR QB Logan Schmitz was a perfect 5-5 passing for 118 yds and 2 TD's with SO WR Joey Kleber catching both TD's. JR DB Alex Rittman & SO FS Joey Magnifico each had interception returns for TD's as 6 different St. Benedict players scored. St. Benedict is 4-4 and will play CBHS next while Carver is 0-10 and their season is over.

St. George's 31 SBEC 17
The Gryphons recovered from their first loss of the seson and it was a big play from a sophomore that led them to the victory. SO QB Andrew Hyde hit SR Matt Thomson with a 69 yd TD pass to break open a close game at the half. SR Henry Cowan added a 46 yd FG & Chandler Loy had a rushing TD to round out the scoring for St, George's. QB P.K. Pearson was spectacular in defeat for the Trojans going 28-42 for 303 yds and 2 TD's. JR WR Samuel Kail caught 11 passes for 130 yds and a TD. JR WR Drew Fowler had 8 catches for 109 yds and JR WR Grant Kimberlin had 7 catches and a TD. St. George's is 8-1 and will play Rossville Christian next. SBEC is 3-5 and will play FACS next.

FACS 31 Rossville Christian 14
The Crusaders totaled over 300 yds of offense and picked off 3 passed en route to the win. SR RB Wesley Campbell had 2 TD's & SO QB Bobby Downing threw for 131 yds and a TD to lead the way. FACS is 4-5 and will play SBEC next while Rossville Christian is 2-7 and will play St. George's next.
