Week 8 recaps

Germantown 20 Houston 10

A rivalry game & 1st place in the district on the line & the Red Devils battled through injuries to prevail. Germantown had over 350 yds of total offense with 242 of it coming via the ground. Despite losing QB Wesley Dacus on the second play of the game (Dacus broke his fibula and is lost for the season) and SR RB Justin Roberson later on, the Red Devils found a way to win. SR Samuel Martin stepped in at QB & was 6-10 passing for 115 yds and a TD to SR wideout Caylon Weathers. Weathers had 4 catches for 83 yds to go with the score while SR RB Damon Cox had 96 yds rushing and a TD as well. Germantown is 6-2 (5-0) and will play Ridgeway next. Houston is 6-2 (4-1) and will play Southwind next.


Olive Branch 49 Horn Lake 15

The Conquistadors had 5 different players score in the win. Dontavis Bruce had 2 TD's and 68 yds rushing on just 4 carries while Alfred Dickens caught a 62 yd pass and threw a 98 yd pass for a TD. The pass was a fake punt that was called from their own 2 yd line with just 35 seconds left in the first half. Sam Craft rushed for a TD and threw for one and finished 6-13 for 177 yds. Malik Hawkins had 2 fumble returns for TD's for the Eagles. He now had 4 defensive scores on the year (3 fumble returns, 1 interception). Olive Branch is now 7-1 (3-1) and will play Grenada next. Horn Lake is 2-6 (0-4) and will play Columbus next.

JCS 42 Tipton Rosemark 20

After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles exploded for 35 points in the 2nd en route to the win. The Rebels fought back in the second half, getting TD's from Logan Stewart, Ethan Kaiser and Whit Whitaker but it wasn't enough. Tipton Rosemark is 2-6 (0-4) and will play Harding Academy next.

USJ 16 St. George's 13

The Gryphons fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in this rematch from last year's state title game. St. George's trailed 13-6 at the half & shut down the Bruin offense in the second half, holding them to only a FG but just couldn't overcome the lead. SR RB Chandler Loy had 114 yds and a TD while JR QB Dean Brown was 12-25 for 210 yds and a score. SR Matt Thomson caught 8 of those for 74 yds while SR Austin Grisham had 2 catches for 95 yds & a 70 yd TD. St. George's is 7-1 (3-1) and will play SBEC next.

Lewisburg 7 Rosa Fort 0

This one was a defensive struggle all night long and in the end, the Patriots came up with the big play to hold on for the win. JR S Chris Taylor recovered a fumble at the Lewisburg 10 yd line with Rosa Fort knocking on the door with about 2 1/2 minutes remaining to seal the win. SR RB Xavier Morris had 127 yds rushing to lead the Patriots. Lewisburg is 6-3 (1-2) & will play North Pontotoc next.

Center Hill 28 Clarksdale 13

The Mustangs got their second straight win behind QB Jacob Marsh. Marsh was 10-20 for 146 yds and 3 TD's through the air and added 49 yds rushing as well. Two of those went to D'Marius Gillespie, who caught 5 passes for 80 yds to lead Center Hill to the win. Center Hill is 3-5 (2-2) and will play West Point next.

Southaven 28 Grenada 22

The Chargers stayed on course for their showdown next week with South Panola with this win. QB Shay Chism had 2 TD passes and Hunter Bull scored twice including a 58 yd fumble return for a TD. Southaven is 6-2 (3-1).

New Hope 8 Lake Cormorant 7

The Gators came up short in this one on the basis of a 2 pt conversion in the 1st quarter. Lake Cormorant scored with about 8 minutes left to make it a one point game but couldn't get any closer. Gators SR QB Brett Thompson was 9-18 for 128 yds & had a rushing TD while JR RB Jeremy McKinney had 22 carries for 124 yds in the loss. Lake Cormorant is 4-4 (1-3 ) & will play Hernando next.

West Memphis 20 Marion 14
The Blue Devils trailed 7-6 after 3 quarters before rallying to get their ninth straight win over the Patriots. Jarvis Cooper & Kendall Allen both scored TD's in the 4th quarter to lead West Memphis. It was Cooper's 2nd TD of the game and he finished with 116 yds on 19 carries while Allen had 108 yds on 23 carries. QB Kody Frasure was 6-12 for 112 yds with WR DeAnfernee Davis catching 3 of those for 84 yds, all of them coming in the 4th quarter. Brian Scott had 117 yds rushing on just 12 carries and a 71 yd TD to lead the Patriots. West Memphis is 5-2 (2-2) & will play Cabot next. Marion is 2-5 (1-3) and will play N Little Rock next.

Cordova 28 Bartlett 19
The Wolves got their first win of the season behind the legs of Devin Arrington. Arrington had 3 TD's and finished with 154 yds on just 19 carries. QB Marquis Ward completed just 2 passes for 116 yds but one of those went to Justin Terry for a 65 yd TD. SO RB Braylon Porter had 17 carries for 100 yds for the Panthers. SO QB Nick Bramlett completed just 4 passes for 123 yds but 2 of those went for TD's. JR WR Wes Johnson caught 3 passes for 114 yds and both TD's. Cordova is 1-7 (1-3) and will play Brighton next. Bartlett is 1-8 (0-4) and will play Craigmont on Oct. 26.

Craigmont 18 Millington 13
The only score of the 2nd half determined the outcome of this one. SO QB Andrew McIntrye hit SO WR Christian Wilkerson with a 22 yd TD pass with just 18 seconds remaining to give the Chiefs the win. McIntyre finished with 18-25 for 172 yds with Wilkerson catching 9 of those for 95 yds while SR RB Walter Crutchfield had 22 carries for 107 yds & 2 TD's for Craigmont. SR RB Antonio Webber had 21 carries for 106 yds and 2 TD's for the Trojans. Craigmont is 6-2 (3-1) and will play East next. Millington is 5-3 (3-1) and will play Jackson North Side next.

CBHS 38 Briarcrest 17
JR QB Breck Ruddick accounted for 3 TD's & SR WR Anthony Miller & JR RB Ramadi Warren each scored twice to lead the Brothers to the victory. After falling behind 7-0, the Purple Wave responded with 21 straight first quarter points. Warren's 1st TD of the night tied the game at 7 & Ruddick hooked up with Miller for TD passes of 37 and 29 to put CBHS up for good. Warren finished with TD's of 39 and 49 yds and had 171 yds of just 15 carries. Ruddick was 11-16 for 158 yds while Miller caught 7 of those for 132 yds to go with the two scores. Saints JR QB B.J. Nagle was 14-28 for 177 yds & a TD and ran for a score as well. Gus Gran caught 5 passes for 61 yds and a TD and Robbie Arthur caught 5 passes for 47 yds. CBHS is 7-1 (1-1) and plays Douglass next. Briarcrest is 7-2 (1-1) and will play MUS on Oct. 26.

MUS 42 St. Benedict 7
6 different Owls scored on the night as they cruised to the win that was marred by a season ending injury to Eagle standout RB & Auburn commitment Jordan Wilkins. Wilkins broke his fibula in two places on a carry in the 3rd quarter and is lost for the remainder of the season. JR WR Devin Perry & SO WR Jack Gray each caught TD passes from SR QB Jordan Rodgers who was 11-16 for 175 yds. MUS is 6-2 (2-0) and will play White Station next. St. Benedict is 3-4 (0-2) and will play Carver next.

Collierville 38 Kirby 30
A wild one that didn't start on time due to a power outage ended up in favor of the Dragons. QB Clay Casey had 4 TD passes on the night, giving him 10 TD's that he has accounted for over the last 2 weeks. Casey was 14-29 for 224 yds & had 57 yds rushing on 7 carries. SO WR Drew Van de Wurst caught 2 TD passes as did SR WR Hastin Witt. Witt had 5 catches for 79 yds in the game. SO RB Telvin Rucker had 2 TD's for the Cougars. SO QB Cedric Crawford was 14-26 for 189 yds with SR Gibagi Griffin hauling in 8 of those for 97 yds. Collierville is 4-4 (2-3) and will play Wooddale on Thursday, Oct 18. Kirby is 1-7 (0-5) and will play Overton next.

Covington 56 Obion Co 6
The Chargers raced out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. SR RB Johnston White continues his impressive season with 127 yds on just 16 carries and 4 TD's. QB T.A. Watson was a perfect 3-3 passing for 83 yds and 2 TD's with SR Carlos Williams catching all three. Covington is now 8-0 (5-0) and will play Milan next.

Ridgeway 40 Southwind 6
The area's leading rusher was at it again on Friday night. SR Orlando Johnson had 218 yds rushing & 3 TD's leading the Roadrunners to the win. SO QB Braxton Conard ws 9-16 passing for 209 yds & 2 TD's and rushed for a TD as well. SO WR Marquette Murdock caught 5 passes for 131 yds & a TD. Ridgeway is 5-3 (4-1) & will play Germantown next while Southwind is 5-3 (3-2) & will play Houston next.

Brighton 42 Hardin Co 17
The Cardinals made the long drive to Savannah worthwhile as they inch closer to a playoff spot. Brighton had over 500 yds of total offense in the game. SR RB Antonio Dickerson had 122 yds rushing & 3 TD's on jut 13 carries while catching 6 passes for 86 yds. SR WR Artez Harris caught 9 passes for 140 yds and a TD. SR QB Brady Stewart had another good night finishing 22-31 for 323 yds & 2 TD's. Brighton is 5-3 (2-1) and will play Cordova next.

Whitehaven 58 Melrose 0
Start with a dominating defense and add it Mark Dodson, Patrick Smith & Gerald Perry and there's a good reason the Tigers have now won 24 straight regular season games. The Whitehaven D held Melrose to 0 total yds in the game while Smith and Perry hooked up for 2 TD's in the win. Smith also added a TD run while finishing 7-10 for 103 yds through the air. Perry caught 3 passes overall for 57 yds to go with the two scores. Dodson had 3 TD's of his own in the first quarter and finished with 156 yds on just 11 carries. Whitehaven is 8-0 (4-0) and will play Mitchell next. Melrose is 0-9 (0-4) and will play Hamilton next on Oct. 26

Sheffield 54 Oakhaven 0
The Knights were another team with a dominating performance on defense. Sheffield held the Hawks to -58 yds of total offense en route to the win. Offensively it was Terrance Dixon, Larry Kimber and Trence Blevins. Dixon had 3 TD's & 154 yds rushing on just 9 carries. Kimber had 3 TD's as well (2 rushing, 1 receiving) while Blevins scored 2 TD's, one of those on a 58 yd punt return. Sheffield is 4-4 (3-1) and will play Northside on Thurs, Oct 18. Oakhaven is 2-7 (1-4) and will play Carver on Oct. 26.

BTW 40 Northside 0
The Warriors clinched a playoff berth with the victory. BTW had over 300 yds of total offense on the night. JR QB Patrick Franklin & SR RB Andrew Bell led the way. Franklin was 5-10 passing for 124 yds and 2 TD's while Bell scored 4 TD's (3 rushing, 1 receiving). BTW is 3-6 (2-1) and will play Central next. Northside is 0-9 (0-3) and will play Sheffield on Thurs, Oct 18.

Mitchell 48 Carver 6
It was the Tamadreus Trezevant show over at JP Freeman Stadium as the Tigers scored early and often en route to the win. Mitchell led 28-0 after 1 and 48-0 at the half & the sophomore QB was a big reason why. Trezevant had 5 TD passes on the night and added 1 on the ground as well. He finished 16-22 for 266 yds. SR WR LaRico Cole caught 5 passes for 92 yds and 3 TD's. JR WR DeJuan McQuarters had 4 catches for 68 yds and a TD while SR WR Derion Munn caught 4 passes for 58 yds and a TD. Mitchell is 7-1 (4-0) and will play Whitehaven next. Carver is 0-8 (0-4) and will play St. Benedict next.

Overton 28 Wooddale 12
The Wolverines broken open a close game at the half with TD's in the 3rd and 4th quarters to get the win. SO RB Jared Stewart led the way with 2 TD's and 160 yds rushing on just 21 carries. Overton is 2-6 (1-4) and will play Kirby next. Wooddale is 2-6 (1-4) and will play Collierville on Thursday, Oct. 18.

ECS 51 SBEC 13
The Eagles had nearly 500 yds of total offense on the night as they stayed unbeated in district play. JR RB Cole Heotis had 5 carries for 111 yds and 2 TD's. SR QB Brent Rooker had 11 carries for 81 yds and a TD & was 7-13 passing for 174 yds and 2 TD's. SR WR Carson Sippel caughter 3 of those passes for 64 yds and both TD's. ECS is 4-4 (3-0) and will play Fayette Academy next. SBEC is 3-4 (1-2) and will play St. George's next.

Raleigh Egypt 42 Frayser 14
There were plenty of big plays in this game & most of them belonged to the Pharoahs. SO RB Narcquese White had TD runs of 90, 80 and 17 yds en route to a 270 yd night on just 12 carries. SR QB Martavious Hayslett added TD runs of 65, 30 and 3 yds while SR RB Tillman Lewis had 8 carries for 126 yds as the Pharoahs had 541 yds rushing in the game. JR QB Montavious McNary had a solid performance for the Rams in defeat. McNary was 18-22 passing for 202 yds and a TD & had 16 carries for 87 yds and a TD. SO WR Antonio Turner had 5 catches for 87 yds and a TD. Raleigh Egypt is 3-5 (3-1) and will play Hillcrest on Thurs., Oct 18. Frayser is 2-6 (1-3) and will play Munford next.

Trezevant 48 Kingsbury 0
The Bears stayed unbeaten in District 15-AA behind solid play on both sides of the ball. The Trezevant D held the Falcons to just 72 yds of total offense. SO RB Jamal Jones led a Trezevant rushing attack that had 337 yds on the night with 218 yds of his own on 22 carries and a TD. SO RB George Monson had 2 TD as did SR LeMarcus Stewart. Stewart's 2nd TD was a 40 yd punt return, his 4th of the year scored on a return (2 punt return, 2 interception). Trezevant is 6-2 (4-0) and will play Dyer Co. next. Kingsbury is 2-7 (1-3) and will play Douglass on Thursday, Oct 25.

Fairley 38 Hillcrest 6
The Bulldog defense came up big, scoring 22 of the 38 points on the night. SR LB Rashad Warr returned an INT 40 yds for a TD to open the scoring & then returned a fumble 32 yds for a score to give Fairley an early 12-0 lead. They added a safety & a blocked punt return of 29 yds for a TD by SR DD Guy. SR Deon Hailey had 102 yds rushing and a 71 yd TD for the Fairley offense. Hillcrest SR QB Byron Logan had 89 yds rushing and a 56 yd TD run and was 4-5 passing for 50 yds in the loss. Fairley is 6-3 (2-1) and will play Sheffield on Oct. 26. Hillcrest is 4-4 (2-2) and will play Raleigh Egypt on Thursday, Oct 18.
