Week 5 Recaps

Briarcrest 41 Arlington 27
Another high profile matchup between two pretty good quarterbacks but it was the ground game of the Saints that earned them the win. Briarcrest rushed for 222 yds in the game and jumped out to a 31-0 lead at the half. Jay Moore led the way with 119 yds and a TD while QB BJ Nagle rushed for 2 TD's and threw for 2 TD's as well. As you have come to expect from Arlington, big time numbers from the quarterback position only this time it wasn't Drew Reed. Reed suffered a broken collarbone and is expected to miss around 6 weeks and JR QB Hunter Sheffield stepped up in a big way. Sheffield finished 27-42 for 308 yds and 2 TD's. Arlington SR WR Justin Boring threw a TD pass and caught 11 passes for 155 yds and a TD in the loss. Briarcrest is now 6-0 and will play ECS next. Arlington is 4-2 and will play Craigmont next.



St. Benedict 55 JCM 33
On a night that featured plenty of outstanding performances across the region, this one might have featured the best. St. Benedict SR RB Jordan Wilkins had 6 TD's to lead the Eagles to the victory. Wilkins finished with 23 carries for 224 yds and 4 TD's and caught 4 passes for 112 yds and 2 TD's. QB Logan Schmitz was 13-17 for 209 yds and 3 TD's and rushed for another as well. St. Benedict is now 3-2 and will play Arlington on Oct. 5.


Marion 53 Mountain Home 18
The Patriots rushed for over 400 yds on the night en route to the victory. Remember this name: CJ Gregory. Gregory was a man among boys on this night. He finished with 246 yds rushing on only 13 carries and TD of 29,41,65 and 77. Rashad Boyd had 2 TD's rushing and 1 receiving as the Patriots evened their record at 2-2. They will play Cabot next.

Whitehaven 48 Central 0
A week after surviving a triple overtime thriller vs White Station, the Tigers kicked it into overdrive early and cruised. Whitehaven led 41-0 at the half. QB Patrick Smith was 6-11 passing for 138 yds and a TD and had 2 rushing touchdowns as well. Mark Dodson had 94 yds and 2 TD's in limited action. Whitehaven is now 6-0 and will play Hamilton next while Central is 3-3 and will play Manassas on Oct. 5

Germantown 54 Kingsbury 0
The Red Devils used contibutions on both sides of the ball to defeat the Falcons. The Germantown D held Kingsbury to 99 yds of total offense and returned 2 interceptions and 1 fumble for TD's while the Red Devil offense rushed for almost 250 yds. 8 different players scored for the Red Devils including Tim Brown and Anthony Quinn on the interception returns and Mack Madlinger on the fumble return. Germantown is now 3-2 and will play Collierville next. Kingsbury is 0-6 and will play Frayser on Sept. 27.

Olive Branch 31 Southaven 28
Another tight game for the defending MS 6A state champs but they found a way to get their 20th win in a row. Sam Craft had 3 TD's to lead the Conquistadors to rally from a 14-10 deficit at the half. Olive Branch is now 5-0 and will play South Panola next. Southaven is 3-2 and will play Columbus next.

Houston 42 Raleigh Egypt 22
The Mustangs trailed 8-7 early before running off 28 unanswered points between the 2nd and 3rd quarters to put the game away. Walker Lamberth and Sam Jacobs each had 2 TD's to lead Houston. RE QB Martavious Hayslett had 131 yds passing and 2 TD's. Houston is now 4-1 and will play Overton next while Raleigh Egypt is now 1-4 and will play Douglass next.

Bolton 32 Frayser 14
The Wildcats broke open a close game at the half and earned their 3rd win of the season. Bolton led 6-0 at the half before scoring twice in the 3rd quarter. Bolton RB Brandon Henderson had 18 carries for 163 yds and a TD. For the Rams, WR Antonio Turner and QB Montavious McNary hooked up twice for TD's. Turner finished with 4 catches for 140 yds and TD's of 42 and 47. Bolton is 3-3 and will play Bartlett next while Frayser is 2-3 and will play Kingsbury on Sept. 27.

Jonesboro 30 West Memphis 21
The Blue Devils came up a little short in suffering their first loss of the year. Kendall Allen had 12 carries for 133 yds and a TD while Jarvis Cooper scored twice as well but the Blue Devils could not stop Martin Stafford who finished with 227 yds and 3 TD's. West Memphis is now 3-1 and will play North Little Rock next.

CBHS 35 Collierville 0
Before the home faithful even had a chance to get comfortable, CBHS had scored and never looked back. Like a bullet shot out of a gun, Ramadi Warren's 85 yd kickoff return got things started on the right foot for the Brothers. Warren added two more rushing TD's on the night and QB Breck Ruddick was a very effective 12-15 for 172 yds and 2 TD's. CBHS is now 5-0 and will play MUS next. Collierville is 2-3 and will play Germantown.

MUS 35 East 9
While the game didn't feature the fever pitch of last year's game, the result was still the same. MUS used 2 touchdown passes from Jordan Rodgers and 2 rushing touchdowns from Chris Evans to get the win. It was a 14-9 game in the 3rd quarter following Faustino Amaro's 3rd FG of the game for the Mustangs. The Owls then scored 21 straight to put the game out of reach. MUS is now 4-2 and will play CBHS next while East is 3-3 and will play Melrose on Thursday, Oct. 4

FACS 34 Tipton Rosemark 12
The Crusaders finished with over 440 yds of total offense in the win. RB Kortney Morris had 205 yds rushing on 18 carries and a TD while QB Bobby Downing was 5-11 for 123 yds and 2 TD's. FACS is now 3-3 and will play Harding Academy next while Tipton Rosemark is 1-4 and will play St. George's next.

St. George's 23 Harding Academy 7
The defending state champs remain unbeaten on the year defeating a tough Harding team. Gryphons RB Chandler Loy was outstanding with 247 yds on 21 carries and 2 TD's and came up with a late interception to seal the victory. Harding QB Chad Parker finished 23-44 for 225 yds in the loss. St. George's is now 6-0 and will play Tipton Rosemark next while Harding Academy is 4-2 and will play FACS next.

Craigmont 20 Mitchell 7
The Mitchell D came into this game with the reputation but it was the D of the Chiefs that was the difference in this one. Craigmont intercepted 4 passes and held the Tigers to -2 yds rushing on the night en route to the win. Craigmont SR RB Walter Crutchfield had 19 carries for 95 yds and 2 TD's to lead the Chiefs. Mitchell QB Tamadreus Trezevant did have 267 yds passing with a TD. Derion Munn caught 5 passes for 103 yds and Dejuan McQuarters caught 5 for 75 yds. Craigmont is 4-1 and will play Arlington next while Mitchell is 5-1 and will play Oakhaven on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Brighton 28 Millington 27
The Cardinals got a late TD to pull out the win. Brighton converted on a 3rd and 29 with 1:29 left in the game as Brady Stewart his Artez Harris with a 47 yd TD pass. The Trojans drove right back down the field to put themselves in position to win the game but a 35 yd FG attempt went just right. Both teams had defensive TD's on the night as Millington SR S George Odom returned an interception 25 yds for his second of the season while Brighton's Bryant Connor returned an interception 95 yds for a score. Stewart finished 21-32 for 231 yds and 3 TD's. 2 of the 3 scores went to Harris who caught 11 passes for 134 yds. The bulk of the yards for the Trojans on the night came via the ground. QB Alan Moore had 11 carries for 124 yds while adding 109 through the air with 2 scores. RB Antonio Webber had 19 carries for 136 yds with 1 TD on the ground and 1 receiving TD. Brighton is 2-3 and will play Munford next while Millington is 3-2 and will play Cordova next.

Lewisburg 35 Byhalia 13
Byhalia got on the board first before Xavier Morris took over to lead the Patriots to the win. Morris had 4 TD's and 137 yds rushing on the night while QB DJ Steakley was a very effective 7-10 passing for 101 yds. Lewisburg is 5-1 and will play Lafayette next.

Douglass 30 BTW 14
The Warriors jumped out of the gate with 2 defensive TD's but couldn't generate any offense on the night as the Red Devils came back for the win. Andrew Bell returned an interception 80 yds for a score and returned a fumble 53 yds for a score to give BTW the early 14-0 lead. Red Devil RB Michael Harris tied the game at 14 with his 6 yd TD run. Harris finished with 136 yds rushing on only 17 carries on the night. The Douglass D held BTW to only 80 yds of total offense for the game. Douglass is 2-3 and will play Raleigh Egypt next while BTW is 1-5 and will play MAHS on Thursday, Sept. 27.

Fayette Academy 45 Bishop Byrne 6
The Vikings got great effort on both sides of the ball to rebound from their first loss of the year. The Fayette Academy D held the Red Knights to just 94 yds of total offense and the offense rushed for over 400 yds on the night. The Vikings were led by RB Marcus Miller who finished with 165 yds rushing on just 13 carries and 3 TD's while RB Blake Douglas was 9 for 155 yds and 2 TD's. Fayette Academy is now 5-1 and will play USJ next while Bishop Byrne is 0-4 and will play SBEC next.

ECS 35 Jackson Christian 0
The Eagles offense was clicking in this one as they roll up over 500 yds of total offense to get the win. All of the scoring was done in the 1st half as JCS had no answer on the night. QB Brent Rooker continues his very impressive play on they year, having a hand in all 5 TD's. Rooker carried 11 times for 88 yds and 2 scores while passing for 3 touchdowns and 280 yds on 15 of 22. WR Cole Heotis caught 4 of those passes for 81 yds and 2 TD's. ECS is 3-2 and will play Briarcrest next.

USJ 40 SBEC 12
Another game that started with 2 defensive scores for the visiting team and it ended up with the same result-the home team won. Grant Kimberlin and Cory Lee each intercepted passes and returned them for TD's in the 1st quarter to put SBEC up 12-0 but their lack of offense did them in. SBEC finished with just 64 yds of total offense on the night. SBEC is now 2-3 and will play Bishop Byrne next.

Fairley 40 Kirby 35
This game was a shootout and wasn't decided until the 4th quarter as the Bulldogs pull out the win. Fairley QB Thurston Rubin's 4th TD pass of night and 2nd to Hollis Carpenter gave them the victory. Rubin finished with 13-27 for 181 yds to go with the four scores. Carpenter caught 5 of those passes for 83 yds to go with his two TD's. RB Dominique Smith had 125 yds rushing and a TD as well. For the Cougars, QB Cedric Crawford had a solid night. Crawford was 19-29 for 259 yds and 3 TD passes and added one rushing as well. WR Gibagi Griffin caught 8 balls for 160 yds while Correy Crawford caught 4 for 60 yds and 2 TD's. Fairley is 4-2 and will play Carver on Thursday, Sept. 27 while Kirby is 1-4 and will play Southwind next.
