Week 3 Recaps

CBHS 42 White Station 24

In a game filled with offensive plays galore, the outcome was determined by the Purple Wave defense. CBHS intercepted 3 passed in the 2nd half including DJ Palmore's 31 yd return for a TD that put the Brothers ahead to stay. SR RB Kurtis Hicks led the way on offense with 16 carries for 120 yds and TDs of 31 and 46. JR QB Breck Ruddick rushed for 72 yds on 9 carries and a TD while going 5-9 for 83 yds through the air. JR QB Cedrick Wilson had 215 yds passing on the night with 3 TD's. All of those TD's came in a 21 point 2nd quarter. SR Donald Gray was on the receiving end for 2 of those scores from 41 and 45 yds out and finished with 3 catches for 137 yds. CBHS improves to 3-0 and will play Center Hill next. White Station is now 2-2 and will play Whitehaven next.

Fayette Academy 28 SBEC 27

In a game that had plenty of offensive fireworks, it came down to a key defensive play to determine the outcome. SBEC QB PK Pearson was stopped by Vikings DE Thomas Carpenter on 4th and 1 and just under a minute and a half remaining to give Fayette Academy the win. The Vikings SR RB Blake Douglass finished with 116 yds on just 9 carries with a 73 yd TD run. SO RB Sullivan Landry scored twice in the game with one of those coming on a 55 yd INT return. For SBEC, Pearson finished 22-30 for 273 yds and a TD. He also scored twice via the ground. Dylan Crouch had 5 carries for 100 yds including a 75 yd TD run. Grant Kimberlin caught 8 passes for 181 yds and rushed 5 times for 57 yds. After only winning 3 games a year ago, Fayette Academy is now 4-0 and faces unbeated St. George's next. SBEC is 2-1 and will take on Harding Academy next.

East 43 Wooddale 8

This is the first of numerous games in which one team dominated on both sides of the ball. East raced out to a 28-0 lead at the half and never looked back. The Mustangs D only gave up 79 yds total offense in the game while their offense had a total of 370, 336 of that came on the ground. East was led by JR RB Antonio Clifton with 208 yds on only 17 carries and 3 TD's. East improves to 2-2 and will take on Hamilton next while Wooddale drops to 1-3 and will play Houston next.

Arlington 42 Overton 19

The Tigers got all of their points in the 1st half and cruised to the victory. Drew Reed accounted for 3 TD's (1-passing, 2-rushing) and Chris Jolly and Drew Erwin each returned fumbles for a TD in the win. JR QB Lindsey Williams scored on a 1 yd run for the Wolverines and was 8-10 passing for 149 yds and a TD. Arlington is now 3-1 and will play Bartlett next while Overton is 1-3 and they will take on Germantown next.

Tipton Rosemark 21 Bishop Byrne 14

The Rebels got their first win of the year behind JR Austin Chambers. Chambers had two TD's on the night, one on the ground and one through the air, an 85 yd pass to Austin Rushing. JR RB John Hampton finished with 112 yds and a TD for the Red Knights. Tipton Rosemark is now 1-2 and will play Rossville Christian next. Bishop Byrne is 0-3 and will play Lausanne next.

Mitchell 7 Melrose 0

The Mitchell defense continued their dominating play early in the season to stay unbeated. The Tiger D gave up 59 total yds on the night including -31 on the ground. Deadrick Mayberry finished with 9 carries for 96 yds and Dewun Todd's 1st quarter TD was all the Tigers needed. Mitchell is 4-0 and will play Sheffield next while Melrose is 0-4 and will play Central next.

Munford 29 Millington 28

The Cougars broke a 9 game losing streak to the Trojans in a game that came right down to the wire. SR QB Hunter Harden found SR WR Derek Pierce in the end zone from 12 yds out with 23 seconds left in the game and then Harden found Pierce once again for the 2 pt conversion that gave the Cougars the win. In a game that featured very little defense, there were numerous standout performances. Harden finished 12-26 for 240 yds and 2 TD's and added another rushing TD as well.SR RB D'Marious Exum had 125 yds rushing and a TD while Pierce caught 6 passes for 122 yds and a TD as the Cougars finished with 408 total yds. Trojans SR RB Antonio Webber did all he could do with an outstanding night. Webber had 18 carries for 285 yds and TD's of 18,47 and 94. SR QB Alan Moore came in for an injured Nick Hunt and was 6-14 for 204 yds and a TD. JR WR Lakeron Garcia caught 4 passes for 201 yds and a 86 yd TD as the Trojans rolled up 543 total yds. Munford is now 2-2 and will play Dyer Co next while Millington drops to 2-1 and will play Bolton next.

Briarcrest 43 Center Hill 7

The Saints jumped out to an early lead and never looked back scoring all 43 points in the 1st half. 6'5 JR WR Kenneth Nichols caught 5 passes for 200 yds and 3 TD's while JR QB BJ Nagle was 11-21 for 265 yds and 4 TD's. SR DB Justin Webster had a 25 yd INT return for a TD while SR K Thomas Farst added a 47 yd FG. Center Hill WR D'Marius Gillespie had 8 catches for 76 yds and a TD. Briarcrest improves to 4-0 and will play St. Benedict next while Center Hill is 1-2 and will play CBHS next.

Bolton 22 St. Benedict 20

The Wildcats got a BIG performance from the smallest player on the team en route to the victory. 5'5 SR RB Brandon Henderson rushed for 152 yds on 20 carries and a 76 yd TD that proved to be the game winner. SR RB Jordan Wilkins led the Eagles with 115 yds and 2 TD's while JR QB Logan Schmitz was 10-12 through the air for 154 yds and had a 25 yd rushing TD as well. Bolton improves to 2-2 on the year and will play Millington next while St. Benedict is now 2-1 and will play Briarcrest next.

Whitehaven 63 Ridgeway 34

On a night filled with outstanding offensive performances throughout the area, this one might have been the best. Whitehaven SR RB Mark Dodson had 385 yds on 30 carries and TD's of 1, 30 and 67 to lead his team to the victory. In a game that went back and forth and was 42-34 after 3, the Tigers added 21 unanswered in the 4th capped by a David Rivers fumble recovery for a TD. 7 different Whitehaven players scored including QB Patrick Smith who threw for 145 yds and a TD and rushed for a TD. Ridgeway's SR RB Orlando Johnson was impressive as well. Johnson had 30 carries for 224 yds and TD's of 3, 5 and 60. Whitehaven is now 4-0 and will play White Station next while Ridgeway drops to 2-2 and will play Kirby next.

Westwood 18 Douglass 12

The Longhorns got a 22 yd TD run from JR Nikia Cathey in the 4th quarter to get the win. SR RB Tevin Reid added 101 yds on just 15 carries for Westwood. SR QB Jalon Whitmore was 5-8 passing for 87 yds and a TD while JR S Keython Johnson intercepted a pass and returned it 76 yds for the score for the Red Devils. Westwood is now 3-1 and will play MAHS next while Douglass is 1-2 and will take on Trezevant next.

Olive Branch 42 Smyrna 19

The defending MS 6A state champs made it 18 in a row with a 21 point 1st quarter and cruised to the win. Olive Branch SR QB Sam Craft threw 2 TD's in that 1st quarter and had 3 TD passes on the night while adding another via the ground. Craft finished 8-16 for 201 yds and had 71 yds rushing on just 7 carries. OB RB Byrekus Payne had 77 yds on just 7 carries and a TD as well. Olive Branch is now 3-0 and will play MUS next.

Fairley 36 MAHS 20

Another game featuring an outstanding performance by a senior running back. Fairley's Dominique Smith had 21 carries for 271 yds and TD's of 19, 65 and 78. SR QB Thurston Rubin, Jr, added 2 TD passes as well. For the Lions, SR QB LaMarien Watkins was pretty good as well. Watkins had 13 carries for 131 yds and a 95 yd TD and was 7-16 passing for 127 yds and a TD. Fairley is now 2-2 and will take on Oakhaven next. MAHS is 1-3 and will play Westwood next.

Hillcrest 25 BTW 0

The Vikings used a dominating defense and Byron Logan to shutout the Warriors. The Hillcrest D only allowed 67 total yds in the game and Logan accounted for all 4 TD's: 2 rushing, 1 passing and 1 receiving. Hillcrest improves to 2-2 and will play Carver next. BTW is 1-3 and will play Southaven next.

Hendersonville 35 Germantown 7

The Red Devils made the trip to Middle Tennessee and ran into a buzz saw. The Commandos rushed for over 350 yds in the victory. One bright spot for the Red Devils was SR RB Justin Roberson who finished with 107 yds on just 9 carries including an 80 yd TD run. Germantown is now 1-2 and will play Overton next.

St. George's 39 FACS 0

The Gryphons dominated on both sides of the ball to stay perfect on the year. St. George's offense totaled 420 yds on the night including 297 on the ground. They were led by SR RB Chandler Loy who had 14 carries for 177 yds and 4 TD's. The Gryphon D was equally as impressive holding the the Crusaders to -4 total yds. St. George's is now 4-0 and will take on fellow unbeaten Fayette Academy next. FACS is 2-2 and will play ECS next.

Ensworth 47 Raleigh Egypt 0

The two-time defending D2-AA state champs were just too much for the Pharoahs scoring 40 of their 47 in the first half. Raleigh Egypt is now 0-3 and will play Kingsbury next.

MUS 46 Central 0

The Owls were another team that dominated on both sides of the ball en route to the win. The MUS D continued their impressive play by holding the Warriors to just 76 yds of total offense. SR QB Jordan Rodgers continued his impressive early season play by going 11-15 for 153 and 4 TD, all of which were thrown to different receivers. Rodgers added a TD on the ground as well. MUS is now 3-1 and will take on Olive Branch next. Central is 2-2 and will play Melrose next.


USJ 24 ECS 17

The Eagles trailed 17-0 and 24-7 before rallying but just ran out of time. ECS had cut the lead to 24-17 but was stopped on a 4 and 1 with 28 seconds left. SR QB Brent Rooker continued his stellar play by going 16-24 for 227 yds and Cole Heotis and Walker Jones added rushing TD's for the Eagles. ECS is now 1-2 and will play FACS next.

Trezevant 40 Southwind 18

The Bears used the big play to give the Jaguars their first loss of the year. Trezevant scored on plays of 27, 33 and 64 while also returning an interception 65 yds by JR CB Phildarius Butler for a score as well. SO QB Jordan Spencer had 3 TD passes on the night for the Bears. Trezevant is now 3-1 and will play Douglass next. Southwind is 3-1 and will play Collierville next.
