MUS 42 Fayetteville, AR 20
MUS traveled over to Fayetteville to play the defending 7A state champions at Razorback Stadium and left the home team with a bad taste in their mouth. The Owls were dominant in the trenches holding Fayetteville to only 11 yds rushing for the game. QB Jordan Rodgers continued his excellent play as he went 19-27 for 215 yds and 3 TD's. Rodgers had a rushing TD as well. RB Shane Tucker had 2 TD's as well including a back-breaking 95 yd KO return after Fayetteville had closed it to 28-20. MUS is now 2-1 overall and will take on Central next.
St. George's 43
Jackson Christian 16
The Gryphons struck early and often to stay unbeaten on the season and pick
up their first district win. They led 20-0 after 1 and 37-0 at the half behind a
very balanced attack. The Gryphons had 225 yds on the ground and 227 through the
air. QB Dean Brown was 16-27 for 207 yds and a TD and added a rushing TD as
well. Matt Thomson caught 8 passes for 138 yds and a 62 yd TD. Henry Cowan had 4
XP and 3 FG's in the game. St. George's is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in district
play and will take on FACS next.
Westwood 32 BTW
0
The Longhorns broke open a close game at the half with 18 points in the third
quarter to get the win. Mother Nature came in and put a stop to this one with
lightning at around the eleven minute mark of the fourth quarter. RB Zephaniah
Young had 111 yds and 2 TD's while Nikia Cathey had 2 TD's. One came via the air
and one on the ground and Cathey intercepted a pass as well. Westwood improves
to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in district play. BTW is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in
district play. Westwood will play Douglass next while BTW will play
Hillcrest.
West Memphis 41
Ashdown 17
The Blue Devils broke open a tight game at the half with a 20 point third
quarter to get the win in the season opener. West Memphis had a 43 yd TD pass
from Kody Frasure to Calvin Goshien, a 15 yd blocked punt return by Stanley
Gaines and a 51 yd TD run by Kendall Allen to put the game away in the third.
West Memphis is 1-0 and will play Blytheville next.
FACS 25 Bishop
Byrne 6
The Crusaders got contributions from both sides of the ball en route to the
victory. QB Bobby Downing was 11-17 for 115 yds and 3 TD's while the defense
held the Red Knights to just 27 yds of total offense. FACS is now 2-1 overall
and 1-0 in district play. Bishop Byrne is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in district play.
FACS will play St. George's next while Bishop Byrne will play Tipton
Rosemark.
East 36 Central

The Mustangs got their first win of the year by getting 16 points from their
defense and holding Central to 131 yds of total offense. East opened the scoring
up with a safety and Tyler Stepney returned a fumble 15 yds for a score in a 16
point first quarter. Cedric Jones picked off a pass and returned 20 yds for the
TD in the second and the Mustangs never looked back. East is now 1-2 overall and
1-0 in district play while Central falls to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in district
play. East will play Wooddale next while Central takes on MUS.
Trezevant 34
Raleigh Egypt 0
It was the Jordan Spencer show as he led the Bears to the shutout win.
Spencer accounted for all of the points in the game. He threw 4 TD passes, ran
for a score and threw 2-2 pt conversions as well. Spencer was 10-15 for 153 yds
on the night and the Bears "D" was up to the task as well holding the Pharoahs
to 101 yds of total offense. Trezevant is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in district
play while Raleigh Egypt falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Trezevant will play Southwind next while Raleigh Egypt will Ensworth.
Arlington 42
Cordova 7
Drew Reed showed no effects from an injury that forced him to leave the game
the week before. Reed accounted for 5 TD's in the game, three through the air
and two on the ground and that was all in the first half. Reed was a perfect 7-7
passing for 188 yds with 2 of the 3 TD passes going to Justin Boring, who
finished with 3 catches for 94 yds. Arlington improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in
district play while Cordova falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in district play. The
Tigers will play Overton next while Cordova plays Collierville.
Craigmont 20
Bolton 0
The Craigmont "D" was the difference in this game as the Chiefs got their
first win of the year. Craigmont had 3 INT in the game including a game changing
94 yd return for a TD by Avery Carmichael as the Wildcats were trying to even
things up. RB Walter Crutchfield finished with 22 carries for 151 yds and a TD.
Craigmont is 1-1 overall and 1-0 in district play while Bolton is 1-2 overall
and 0-1 in district play. Craigmont will take on Kingsbury next while Bolton
will play St. Benedict.
Briarcrest 49
Melrose 13
The Saints improved to 3-0 on the year with a 28 point first quarter that put
the game away. Court Satterfield and Jay Moore each had 2 TD's rushing.
Satterfield finished with 101 yds rushing on the night while Gus Gran had a 65
yd INT return for a TD as well. Briarcrest is now 3-0 and will play Center Hill
next. Melrose is 0-3 and will play Mitchell.
Fayette Academy
42 Tipton Rosemark 14
The trend of the night was scoring early and often and the Vikings followed
that trend en route to the win. Fayette Academy scored 21 pts in the opening
quarter and never looked back. Marcus Miller had 8 carries for 128 yds and 2
TD's while Blake Douglas had 2 TD's as well including a 33 yd INT return for a
score. The Vikings are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in district play while Tipton
Rosemark drops to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in district play. Fayette Academy will
play SBEC next while Tipton Rosemark will play Bishop Byrne.
Mitchell 19
Fairley 14
Offense sells the tickets, defense wins the game. The Mitchell Tigers are
most certainly believers in that. Antonio Gilliam's 62 yd INT return for a TD
proved to be the difference in the game. It was the second straight week that
Gilliam has picked off a pass and returned it for a TD and it's the fifth INT
return for a TD on the season for the Tigers. Mitchell stays unbeaten at 3-0
overall and 1-0 in district play. Fairley is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in district
play. Mitchell will play Melrose next while Fairley will play MAHS.
Germantown 45
Kirby 2
Damon Cox scored three TD's in the first quarter and the Red Devils got their
first win of the year. Cox finished with 154 yds on 18 carries and Caleb Brown
added 2 TD's as well as Germantown had 269 yds rushing in the game. The Red
Devils are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in district play and will travel to
Hendersonville next to take on the Commandos. Kirby is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in
district play and will play Ripley next.
ECS 28 Harding
Academy 13
The Eagles christened their brand new turf field with a victory. QB Brent
Rooker continues to lead the way for ECS. The senior QB was responsible for all
four TD's on the night with three through the air and another on the ground.
Rooker finished 17-23 for 276 yds passing and added 55 yds rushing on 9 carries.
Through 2 games Rooker is 41-52 for 499 yds passing. Trace Williams caught 6
passes for 101 yds on the night for the Eagles. ECS is now 1-1 overall and 1-0
in district play. Harding Academy is 2-1 overall and 0-1 in district play. ECS
will play USJ next while Harding Academy will play JCS.
Sheffield 54
Carver 6
Special teams play and the defense were the highlight of the night for the
Knights as they got their first victory. The Sheffield defense held the Cobras
to 29 yds of total offense while Sheffield's special teams unit had 3 scores on
the night. Kendrict Turned had a 40 yd return of a blocked punt for a TD while
Trence Blevins returned a punt 56 yds for a TD and Larry Kimber returned a
kickoff 88 yds for a score. QB Terrance Dixon was 7-11 for 89 yds and 2 TD's
through the air and had 5 carries for 55 yds and 2 TD's on the ground as well.
Sheffield is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in district play while Carver is 0-3 overall
and 0-1 in district play. Sheffield will play Horn Lake next while Carver will
play Hillcrest on Sept. 13.
Millington 35
Bartlett 6
JR QB Nick Hunt set a school record in only his second varsity start ever to
lead the Trojans to the win. Hunt set 2 records-one for most TD passes in a
game-4 and most TD passes in a single quarter-3 in the second quarter. Hunt
finished 8-13 for 167 yds. One of those TD passes was to Antonio Webber for 71
yds. Webber had his second straight 100 yd game with 126 yds on just 13 carries
and a 47 yd TD as well. Robert Wingo had 110 yds and a TD on just 11 carries in
a losing effort for the Panthers. Millington improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in
district play. Bartlett drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Millington will play Munford in the annual "M & M" Bowl next while Bartlett
takes on Houston.
Houston 24
Collierville 10
Sam Jacobs had 2 TD runs in the game and Sam Kempka had a late interception
to seal the win for the Mustangs. Houston is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in district
play. Collierville is 1-1 overall and 0-1 in district play. Houston will play
Bartlett next while Collierville takes on Cordova.
DeSoto Central
20 Lake Cormorant 14 (OT)
Lake Cormorant tied the game with 8 seconds left in regulation and had their
chance in OT but DeSoto Central came up with the big play to get the win. The
Gators went 93 yds in 2:25 to tie the game and force overtime. DeSoto Central
scored first in the extra period on QB Kyle Morgan's second TD of the game. It
all came down to fourth down for Lake Cormorant and a chance to tie the game and
DeSoto's Kevin Campbell recovered a fumble to give the Jaguars the win. DeSoto
Central is now 3-0 on the year while Lake Cormorant is 2-1. The Jaguars will
play North Panola next while the Gators will play Rosa Fort on Sept. 14.
Hernando 36
Rosa Fort 12
Leon Cunningham and Travis McMahon combined for 5 TD's in leading the Tigers
to the Victory. McMahon had 2 TD's and Cunningham had 3 including one that was a
65 yd kickoff return. Hernando is 2-0 on the year and will play Cleveland
next.
Manassas 42
Kingsbury 12
The Tigers rolled up over 300 yds rushing en route to the win. Rayford
Albright accounted for 166 of those and Montrel Sims added 118 yds. Melvin Bond
had 2 TD's including a 87 yd kickoff return while Randy Blackburn intercepted a
pass and returned it 82 yds for a score. Manassas is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in
district play while Kingsbury is 0-3 overall and 0-1 in district play. Manassas
will play Northside on Thursday, Sept 6 while Kingsbury will play Craigmont that
same day.
Ridgwway 42
Overton 0
Both sides of the ball played extremely well for the Roadrunners in the win.
The Ridgeway "D" held the Wolverines to just 55 yds of total offense while the
Ridgeway offense accounted for over 400 yds of total offense themselves. RB
Orlando Johnson rushed for 201 yds and a TD on 26 carries while Earl Harrison
added 133 yds and a TD on 15 carries. Ridgeway is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in
district play. Overton is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in district play. Ridgeway will
take on Whitehaven next while Overton will play Arlington.
