Recaps from November 2-3

Hamilton 22 Henry Co 20
Gary Childs has been doing it all year long on the defensive side of the football with an area best 7 interceptions. However, he might have saved his best for the playoffs. Childs caught two TD passes  in the game including a 75 yd TD pass from Josh Crutcher with 2:32 left to give the Wildcats the win. The Hamilton D was its usual tough self, holding the Patriot to 184 yds of total offense while recovering two fumbles and intercepting a pass.

Trezevant 26 Dyersburg 0
The Bears' D was most impressive in this first round playoff victory. Trezevant held the Trojans to 103 yds of total offense & they registered their 4th straight shutout and fifth overall on the year. A trio of sophomores led the way on offense. WR Gabriel Scott caught a TD pass from QB Jordan Spencer who also ran for a score and Jamal Jones added a rushing TD. Raphael Ellis ran for a TD as well.

Whitehaven 42 Collierville 7
In the playoffs, you need your best players to step up and make plays. Mark Dodson and the Whitehaven D did just that. Dodson had 21 carries for 245 yds and TD's of 17, 20 and 61 yds. Darius Sims & David Rivers each returned interceptions for TD's as the defense held the opposition to 7 pts or fewer for the 9th time in 11 games.

Covington 55 Hillcrest 0
The Chargers remaned 1 of 2 unbeaten teams in the area behind who else but Johnston White & an exceptional effort the their defense. White touched the ball 11 times in the first half and scored 6 TD's. He caught a 69 yd pass for a TD and rushed 10 times for 118 yds and 5 scores. Carlos Williams had a 52 yd punt return for a TD as well. The Chargers D had 3 interceptions and held the Vikings to -5 yds of total offense for the game.

Lewisburg 28 Cleveland 23
The Patriots weren't simply content to be in the first playoff game in school history. They wanted to make some noise and that's exactly what they did as they went on the road and came away with the victory. The Patriots jumped out to a 21-3 lead behind touchdowns from Chris Taylor, Jermaine McMahan & DJ Steakley. The offensive play of the game came after Cleveland had cut the lead to 21-17. There aren't too many plays in the playbook for 3rd and 25 especially with your backup QB in the game. John Ferguson raced down the sideline for a 59 yd TD on that play to give Lewisburg a 28-17 lead that they would not relinquish.

Harding Academy 60 Zion Christian 14
If I told you that Harding would only have 173 yds of total offense on the night, you probably responded with how much did they get beat by. Henderson rushed for a TD & threw 3 TD passes to 3 different receivers.

Sam Martin started the year as the backup QB. Due to a season-ending injury to Wesley Dacus, Martin has had to step up & deliver. You might as well go ahead and call him "The Mailman" because he delivered big time in the Red Devils win Friday night. Martin went 42 yds for a TD on Germantown's first possession of the game. He followed that up with a 78 yd TD pass to Caylon Weathers & a 43 yd TD pass to Justin Roberson as he finished 3-4 passing for 126 yds. Damon Cox added 92 yds & 2 TD's of his own.
