Week 1 Recap


White Station 35 Arlington 27


White Station (1-1) Arlington (1-1)

The Spartans built a huge lead and withstood a furious rally by the Tigers. White Station was up 35-13 early in the 4th quarter following Donald Gray's third TD of the game. But Arlington QB Drew Reed wasn't finished. Reed threw 2 TD passes in the 4th, one to Justin Boring and one to Omari Hampton to cut the lead to 8 with about a minute to play but the Spartans were able to hold on for the victory. White Station will play Hamilton on Thursday, Aug. 30 while Arlington will play Cordova next.St.


SBEC 27 Davidson Academy 7

SBEC (2-0)

PK Pearson threw for 162 yds and 2 TD's as the Trojans went on the road and defeated the Bears 27-7. SBEC will host Pillow Academy next.



Brighton 49 Raleigh Egypt 24

Brighton (1-1) Raleigh Egypt (0-1)

Raleigh Egypt led 24-14 before the Cardinals stormed back with 35 straight points en route to the 49-24 victory. Brighton RB Antonio Dickerson had 146 yds rushing and 3 TD's and caught a pass for a TD as well. QB Brady Stewart threw for 324 yds and 4 TD while Artez Harris caught 6 passes for 128 yds and 2 TD. In a losing effort, the Pharoahs' Martavious Hayslett was spectacular. Hayslett rushed for 85 yds on 4 carries and a TD while going 7-13 for 133 yds and 2 TD's through the air. Next up for Brighton is Covington on Sept 7. Raleigh Egypt will travel to Nashville to play Ensworth.

Benedict 35 Bartlett 20


St. Benedict (2-0) Bartlett (0-2)

Auburn commitment Jordan Wilkins had his 1st 100 yd rushing game of the season to lead the Eagles to victory. Wilkins finished with 133 yds and 2 TD's but he was overshadowed by his counterpart from the Panthers, Joshua Hall. Hall had 48 carries for 333 yds and 3 TD's. The carries were the secondmost ever in a single game in Shelby Metro history. St. Benedict will play Bolton next while Bartlett take on Millington.



DeSoto Central 28 Potts Camp, MS 0

DeSoto Central (2-0)

The Jaguars had 300 yds rushing to lead the way in the 28-0 win. Nathan Vanderburg had 105 yds rushing on only 11 carries and scored twice on the ground while catching a TD pass as well. DeSoto Central will take on Lake Coromorant next.



Collierville 47 Hillcrest 0

Collierville (1-0) Hillcrest (0-2)

The Dragon "D" was the star of this shutout win. They held the Vikings to 4 first downs and 68 total yards for the game. Dragon QB Clay Casey was 6-9 for 140 yds and a TD while rushing for 2 TD's as well. Collierville will play Houston next while Hillcrest will take on Oakhaven.



Overton 32 Melrose 8

Overton (1-1) Melrose (0-2)

Great balance on offense and a pretty good effort on "D" led the Wolverines to a 32-8 win. Overton had over 200 yds rushing and passing in the game. QB Darius Boone was 7-12 passing for 156 yds and 2 TD's. WR Ashton Cooper caught 4 passes for 117 yds and 2 TD's. The Wolverine defense held Melrose to 4 first downs and 76 total yds. Overton will play Ridgeway next on Thurs, Aug. 30 while Melrose will play Briarcrest.



Bolton 20 Houston 9

Bolton (1-1) Houston (0-1)

It was the Wildcat "D" that led the way in the 11 point victory. Marquez Wade opened the scoring with a 25 yd INT return for a TD and Garrett Copeland finished the scoring with a 45 yd INT return for a TD. Bolton will take on St. Benedict next. Houston will play Collierville.



Millington 31 Kirby 6

Millington (1-0) Kirby (0-1)

Another team with a strong defensive effort was Millington in their 31-6 win. CJ Harris' 26 yd INT return for a TD on the 3rd play of the game was just the kind of spark the Trojans needed following the death of 15 yr old sophomore WR Dana Payne earlier in the week at practice. George Odom put a cap on the scoring with his 78 yd INT return for a TD in the 4th quarter. RB Antonio Webber added 124 yds rushing on 15 carries and a TD. Millington will take on Bartlett next while Kirby will play Germantown.



CBHS 41 Germantown 13

CBHS (2-0) Germantown (0-1)

The Purple Wave piled up almost 400 yds rushing on the way to a 28 pt win. RB Kurtis Hicks led the way with 239 yds on 29 carries and 3 TD's. Ramadi Warren had 7 carries for 76 yds and a TD before leaving with an injury and Brendan Welch tacked on FG's of 30 and 32 yds. CBHS will play next on September 7 vs when they take on White Station. Germantown will play Kirby next.



Briarcrest 32 East 20

Briarcrest (2-0) East (0-2)

QB BJ Nagle led the way for the Saints en route to the 12 point win. Nagle had 3 TD passes and added a fourth on the ground. WR Kenneth Echols caught 5 passes for 110 yds and 2 TD's for Briarcrest. In a losing effort for the Mustangs, RB Antonio Clifton had 107 yds rushing and 2 TD's. Briarcrest will play Melrose next while East takes on Central.



Covington 49 Munford 7

Covington (2-0) Munford (1-1)

The Chargers flexed their muscles in a BIG way in this first clash of the season between Tipton County teams. Covington rushed for 553 yds in the game. They were led by RB Johnston White, a 2,000 yd rusher from a year ago. White had 22 carries for 247 yds and 3 TD's. DaiQuon Norfolk added 150 yds on 14 carries and 2 TD's. Munford will take on Hardin Co next while Covington gets another clash with a country rival, Brighton.



Lewisburg, MS 45 Oakhaven 0

Lewisburg (1-1) Oakhaven (0-2)

The Patriot defense was the story of this game. They held Oakhaven to 2 first downs and -6 yds total offense in the game. The offense added 240 yds rushing while Xavier Morris had 2 TD's. Lewisburg will play North Panola next while Oakhaven will take on Hillcrest.



Douglass 24 MAHS 6

Douglass (1-0) MAHS (0-2)

The Red Devils spotted the Lions an early TD but came roaring back behind RB Michael Harris. Harris had TD runs of 28 and 32 yds and finished with 162 yds on 30 carries. Douglass will play Frayser on Thursday, August 30 while MAHS will take on Northside.



Mitchell 17 Manassas 6

Mitchell (2-0) Manassas (1-1)

Another week. Another set of defensive TD's for the Tigers. For the second straight week, Mitchell picked off two passes and returned them for TD's. Anthony Williams got the first one, returning it 45 yds for the score and Antonio Gilliam stepped in front of a Jordan Peges' pass and returned it 72 yds for a score. Mitchell will play Fairley next while Manassas will play Kingsbury on Thursday, Aug. 30.



MUS 55 Kingsbury 6

MUS (1-1) Kingsbury (0-2)

The Owls bounced back from the tough loss to Ensworth last week and with a 41 point first quarter en route to the win. QB Jordan Rodgers was impressive once again. Rodgers was 5-9 for 106 yds and 4 TD's. For Kingsbury, QB Eric Cole had 211 yds passing and a TD. WR Derrick Hankins caught 9 balls for 127 yds for the Falcons. MUS will travel to Fayetteville, AR on Thursday, Aug. 30 while Kingsbury will play Manassas on Thursday as well.



Fayette Academy 44 FACS 7

Fayette Academy (2-0) FACS (1-1)

The Vikings got off to a quick start with a 23 point first quarter and never looked back. Marcus Miller's 2nd TD of the first quarter was a backbreaker to FACS. Miller, who had started the game off with a 52 yd TD run, stepped in front of a Evan Bailey pass at the 1 and returned it 99 yds for the TD. QB Alex Smith was 2-3 passing for 90 yds and added 2 rushing TD's. Next up for Fayette Academy is Tipton Rosemark while FACS will play Bishop Byrne.



Halls 35 Tipton Rosemark 18

Tipton Rosemark (0-1)

The Rebels got over 200 yds passing in the game but could not slow down the Halls offense. QB Austin Chambers was 15-30 for 202 yds and a TD for TRA. Logan Stewart caught 5 of those for 130 yds and a TD while adding a rushing TD. Collin McClain intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yds for a TD for the Rebels as well. Next up for TRA is Fayette Academy.



St. George's 10 ECS 6

St. George's (2-0) ECS (0-1)

The Gryphons rode the back of Chandler Loy and the legs of Henry Cowan to come away with the win. Loy finished with 116 yds on 25 carries and came up with big yards time and time again while Cowan's XP and 28 yd FG proved to be the margin of victory for St. George's. ECS got an outstanding performance from QB Brent Rooker. Rooker had 67 yds rushing on 15 carries and was 24-29 passing for 223 yds. St. George's will take on Jackson Christian next while ECS will play Harding Academy.



Olive Branch 38 Trezevant 14

Olive Branch (2-0) Trezevant (1-1)

The Conquistadors have now won 17 in a row dating back to last season but it wasn't easy. Olive Branch only led 10-8 at the half before blowing the game open with 4 TD's in the second half. OB had almost 400 yds of total offense on the night including 246 rushing. Sam Craft had 2 TD's for Olive Branch as four different players scored. Next up for the Conquistadors is Smyrna on Sept. 7 while Trezevant will take on Raleigh Egypt.



Hernando 30 North Pontotoc 21

Hernando (1-0)

The Tigers got their season started on the right foot in a high scoring first half. They led 24-21 and QB Travus McMahon was the main reason why. McMahon rushed for 3 TD's and added another through the air in leading his team to the victory. Hernando will play Rosa Fort next.



Southaven 27 Rosa Fort 14

Southaven (1-1)

The Chargers got their first win of the season over Rosa Fort. QB Shea Chism threw 2 TD passes while Donovan Ward had 2 TD's rushing in the game. Southaven will take on Greenwood on Sept. 7



Lake Cormorant 37 Horn Lake 14

Lake Cormorant (2-0) Horn Lake (0-2)

The Gators used a tag team of Jarvis Hankerson and Ryan Golden to put away the Eagles. Hankerson caught a TD pass and on the very next play from scrimmage, intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yds for the score. Golden returned 2 punts (67,43) for TD's. Horn Lake's Malik Hawkins picked off a pass and returned it 61 yds for a score as well. Lake Cormorant will take on DeSoto Central next while Horn Lake will play Sheffield on Sept. 7.



Whitehaven 14 Fairley 6

Whitehaven (2-0) Fairley (1-10

The Tigers overcame fumble problems and prevailed with the win in this neighborhood rivalry. RB Mark Dodson finished with 26 carries for 152 yds but lost 3 fumbles in the game. QB Patrick Smith was 8-16 for 153 yds and 2 TD's. The Whitehaven "D" was as strong as ever limiting the Bulldogs to only 86 total yds. Whitehaven will take on East St Louis, IL next while Fairley plays Mitchell.
