Week 0 Recap


Arlington 31 Murfreesboro Oakland 28

Arlington (1-0)

Drew Reed threw for 244 yds and 3 TD as the Tigers defeated the Patriots 31-28. The game was tied at 14 less than a minute before halftime when Reed's pass was intercepted by Oakland's Tyson Cope and returned 100 yds for a TD. The Tigers made the most of their opportunities in the second half outscoring the Patriots 17-7. Tiger WR Justin Boring caught 10 passes for 89 yds and a TD. Travon Willis led Oakland with 107 yds rushing and 3 TD's. Next up for Arlington is White Station.




Murfreesboro Riverdale 42 Brighton 19

Brighton (0-1)

Brighton was only down 14-6 at the half but could not stop the Warriors in the third quarter or Marico Odum as they pulled away 42-19. Odum scored 3 TD's on the night including a 55 yd INT return in the 1st quarter and on runs of 59 and 96 as well. Odum finished with 191 yds on just 5 carries. Brighton had over 400 yds of offense on the night led by QB Brady Stewart who was 25-42 for 247 yds and 2 TD's, Antonio Dickerson rushed for 138 yds on 20 carries and 1 TD while Artez Harris caught 11 passes for 121 yds and 2 TD's. Next up for Brighton is Raleigh Egypt.


Olive Branch 31 Madison Central 28

Olive Branch (1-0)

The defending state champs had their hands full and it took the entire game to determine the outcome. Zack Weir's 20 yd FG with 6.7 seconds left gave the Conquistadors a 31-28 victory. Olive Branch was up 28-14 headed into the 4th qtr following Jamil Collins 69 yd punt return for a TD but Madison answered with 2 straight TD's before Weir's FG sealed their fate. Sam Craft led OB with 115 yds rushing on 17 carries. Craft was also 7-18 passing for 75 yds and a TD and caught a TD pass as well. Olive Branch will take on Trezevant next.

Nashville Ensworth 35 MUS 28

MUS (0-1)

In a game that was a rematch of the state semifinals last year, the Tigers were able to hold off the Owls 35-28. Ensworth jumped out to a 35-14 lead behind last year's D2 Mr. Football winner, Corn Elder. Elder scorched the Owls for 263 yds and 4 TD's (1,33,43 and 65). The Owls couldn't stop the run and the Tigers couldn't stop the passing attack of MUS. Making his first varsity start, Jordan Rodgers was fantastic. Rodgers was 31-45 for 383 yds and 3 TD's. Shane Tucker caught 10 passes for 153 yds and a TD. MUS will take on Kingsbury next.

CBHS 56 Wooddale 6

CBHS (1-0) Wooddale (0-1)

The Purple Wave scored early and often in this one on their way to the 56-6 win. The game was 21-0 after 1 & 49-0 at the half and the starters took the rest of the night off. Connor Harris had 80 yds on 5 carries and a TD while Ramadi Warren had 75 yds on 5 carries and 3 TD. Breck Ruddick got his first varsity start at QB and was 4-6 for 82 yds and a TD while rushing for a TD as well. Up next for the Brothers is Germantown. Wooddale will take on Cordova.

Harding Academy 47 Carver 0

Harding Academy (1-0) Carver (0-1)

The Lions were clicking on both sides of the ball enroute to a 47-0 win. Harding's defense held the Cobras to 1 first down and 15 yds total offense. Michael Carr led the way for the offense with 115 yds on 16 carries and 2 TD's. Carlis Settles had 2 TD runs as well. Harding Academy will take on Rossville Christian next while Carver gets BTW.

Manassas 34 BTW 6

Manassas (1-0) BTW (0-1)

The Tigers broke open a close game at the half and pulled away for the 34-6 victory. It was 14-6 at the half when Manassas tacked on 2 TD's in the third quarter to give themselves some breathing room. Melvin Bond led the Tigers with 132 yds rushing on 15 carries and a 55 yd TD. QB Jordan Peges was 5-8 passing for 74 yds and 2 TD's-both of those were to Rayford Albright. The defense did their part as well holding the Warriors to 1 yd of total offense. Manassas will take on Mitchell next while BTW gets Carver.

SBEC 58 Rossville Christian 22

SBEC (1-0) Rossville Christian (0-1)

The Trojans jumped out to 16-0 lead and never looked back on the way to the 58-22 win. QB PK Pearson was almost perfect in the game, completing 14-15 for 118 yds and 2 TD's and added one rushing TD. Samuel Kail caught both of those TD passes while Dylan Crouch, Cory Lee and Scott McRae all scored 2 TD's each as well. Next up for SBEC is Davidson Academy. Rossville Christian will play Harding Academy.

St. Benedict 34 McNairy Central 14

St. Benedict (1-0)

The Eagles showed that there is more to them than just Jordan Wilkins in the 34-14 win. Logan Schmitz scored 2 TD's and had 85 yds passing as well. Wilkins, an Auburn committment coming off a stellar junior year, finished with 84 yds on 17 carries and a TD. St. Benedict will take on Bartlett next.

St. George's 25 FRA 20

St. George's (1-0)

The Gryphons trailed early but responded with 25 straight points on the way to the 25-20 victory. QB Dean Brown was 10-18 passing for 190 yds and rushed for 2 TD's as well. Matt Thomson caught 6 passes for 91 yds and threw a 36 yd TD pass. Next up for St. George's is ECS.

Southwind 15 East 12

Southwind (1-0) East (0-1)

East jumped out to an early 12-0 lead but the Jaguars were able to come back to get the 15-12 win. Christian Johnson scored on a 55 yd screen pass from Darius Henderson to give Southwind the go ahead score.  Henderson finished 9-17 passing for 112 yds and added 79 yds rushing on 11 carries with a TD. East had a very balanced attack with 244 yds rushing and 136 passing. Antonio Clifton led the Mustangs with 180 yds on 25 carries while QB Eddie Harper was 9-17 passing for 136 yds a 1 TD. Next up for Southwind is Sheffield while East takes on Briarcrest.

Trezevant 46 Melrose 12

Trezevant (1-0) Melrose (0-1)

The Bears were in command from start to finish in the 46-12 win. Trezevant was up 16-0 with 3 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter and never looked back. QB Jordan Spencer had 2 TD's rushing and 2 TD's passing on the night and the defense was up to the task as well. Melrose did not gain their first yard of offense until late in the 2nd quarter. It doesn't get any easier for Trezevant next as they take on Olive Branch while Melrose will play Overton.

FACS 23 MAHS 13

FACS (1-0) MAHS (0-1)

FACS jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter on the way to the 23-13 win. QB Evan Bailey led a balanced attack for the Crusaders with 136 yds rushing on 15 carries and a TD while adding 79 yds passing and a TD as well.  For MAHS, it was the LaMarien Watkins show. Watkins finished with 137 yds rushing on just 20 carries and 2 TD and he was 15-28 passing for 160 yds. Next up for FACS is Fayette Academy while MAHS will play Douglass

Briarcrest 42 Overton 7

Briarcrest (1-0) Overton (0-1)

The Saints raced out to an early lead and never looked back in the 42-7 win. DJ Evans 71 yd INT return got things started in a 21-0 first quarter. Jay Moore added 142 yds rushing on 11 carries and a TD while QB B.J. Nagle ran for 2 TD's and threw for 1. Briarcrest will take on East next while Overton will play Melrose.

Fairley 16 Hamilton 8

Fairley (1-0) Hamilton (0-1)

The Bulldogs used their defense to pull out the 16-8 victory. Fadari Caldwell recovered a fumble and raced 34 yds for the go ahead score. Fairley also had 2 INT on the day and held the Wildcats to 111 yds of total offense. Speaking of defense, Hamilton's Josh Crutcher got the scoring started on the day with a 36 INT return for a TD to give Hamilton the early lead. Fairley will play Whitehaven next while Hamilton gets Fayette Ware.

Whitehaven 41 Hillcrest 0

Whitehaven (1-0) Hillcrest (0-1)

Respect Da' Haven was in full effect as the Tigers rolled to a 42-0 win. RB Mark Dodson, an University of Mississippi commitment, had 150 yds rushing and a TD in just over 1 quarter of action.  Whitehaven will play Fairley next and it will be Hillcrest and Collierville.

Mitchell 26 Westwood 6

Mitchell (1-0) Westwood (0-1)

Another impressive performance by a defense in this 26-6 win. Mitchell only allowed 135 total yds on the day and 72 of those were on one play. The Tigers also intercepted 2 passes and returned them for TD's, one by Emmanual Johnson and one by Jarvis Jones. The offense chipped in as well. QB Tamadreus Trezevant was 9-18 passing for 211 yds and 1 TD. Dejuan McQuarters caught 4 of those passes for 155 yds. Senior QB Jerome Gilkey III had a 72 yd pass for a TD for Westwood but was hit shortly before the end of the first half and suffered a broken arm. Mitchell will take on Manassas next while Westwood will play BTW on August 31
