From the TSSAA Board of Control

There was a meeting earlier today by the TSSAA Board of Control in which they discussed a number of things but these are the ones that merit the most attention.

If you recall, there was an error made in one of the brackets this year.

Army All American Bowl

Frank Herron from Central, who is committed to LSU, played in the Army All American Bowl in San Antonio this past Saturday. Here is what Mike Farrell from Rivals.com had to say about him:

This goes to the player who raised his stock the most, and Herron is that guy. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 236 pounds coming in, Herron looked every bit of 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds and moved like a smaller prospect. He's raw, but his athleticism and physical ability will allow him to make a big jump.

More post season honors for area players

The Semper Fidelis All American Bowl will be played Friday, January 4 in Carson, California. Central WR Latevius Rayford will play in this game which will be broadcast on the NFL Network. The game will be at 8 pm.

The Army All American Bowl will be played Saturday, January 5 in San Antonio, Texas. Central DE Frank Herron & East OL Christian Morris will play in the game which will be broadcast on NBC starting at noon.

Post season honors for the Whitehaven Tigers

The Whitehaven Tigers football team will be honored by Maxpreps and the Army National Guard during a pep rally on Friday, January 4 at 1 pm for the Tour of Champions. Whitehaven is one of only 50 teams to be honored nationwide. The Tigers finished 15-0 and won the 6A state title with a thrilling 36-35 win in overtime vs Maryville.

Shelby Metro Area players in TN-KY All Star Game

The 6th Annual National Guard Border Bowl will be played on January 12, 2013 at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY. There are 3 players from the Shelby Metro area participating in the game: WR/DB Thomas Adams from Central and RB Antonio Webber & DB George Odum from Millington.

Congrats to Dedrick Guy from Fairley, Johnson White and Carlos Williams from Covington and DeJuan McQuarters and Antonio Gilliam from Mitchell for making the 4A TSWA All State Team.

Guy is listed as on the 3A team but Fairley is a 4A school.
